Title: McCreesh Family
Post by: ev2210 on Wednesday 22 March 06 16:09 GMT (UK)
Hi.
I am trying to find the birthplace of John Peter McCreesh, all I know is he was born in Ireland in about 1826 and died in Lancashire England about 1877.    I would like to find out where he was born his parents names and if he had siblings.  His occupation was architect in England, I assume he completed his education in Ireland.  Any suggestions where I would go to find this info.

I am trying to research the McCreesh family.  My 3X Great Grandfather, was John Peter McCreesh bd c 1823, all I know is, he was born in Ireland.  I believe the name McCreesh is possibly a Co. Armagh name.

If anyone has been researching this name and has come across John Peter I would be very gratefull for any information.  He moved to England and was working as a carpenters apprentice in Chapel en le Frith, Derbyshire in 1841.

John Peter married Elizabeth hurst in 1850 in Wigan, Lancashire.

Hello ev,

What denomination were the McCreesh family? Were they members of the Catholic faith, members of the Established Church (Anglicans or Church of Ireland) or Presbyterians?

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Hi.

The information I have on the family is a little sketchy.  Some of the children of JP and Elizabeth were members of the Catholic church but not sure if they became Catholic by marriage.
