This entry is from Lancs OPC www.lan-opc.org.uk
Marriage: 6 Oct 1806 St. Laurence, Chorley Lancashire
James Warburton - (X), Bleacher of Chorley
Alice Foster - (X), Spinster of Chorley
Witness: Mary Culiban?; Richard Warburton, (X)
Married by Banns by: Oliver Cooper
Register: Marriage, Page 120, Entry 477
Richard Warburton could be his brother or his father

Might be no connection but the 1841 for Chorley has Richard Warburton (indexed as Warbritton) aged 55 who has a son called James
No other James Warburton in Chorley in 1841

hi carole, many thanks for that. at least now i know theire work and the church they were married in.
was surprised at the name Richard(as the witness) as ther is not one richard in the family tree. he had 3 sons and 2 daughters.
any suggestions as to my next move to try and go back further?
regards
james

looked at the history of the church and Oliver cooper who married them gets a mention and is buried in the churc grounds, and got a great picture of the church taken in 1850.

This is from Lancashire OPC but there is no way of knowing if it is the right entry. Neither James or Alice are on the 1841/51 census so there is no proof of when they were born
Although the marriage entry shows "of Chorley" I'm not sure if that just means he satisfied the residential conditions to get married there but may have been born elsewhere
Baptisms: 8 Feb 1778 St Laurence, Chorley
Alice Foster - parents Charles Foster & Ellen
Register: Baptisms 1769 - 1797, Page 22, Entry 12
There is no logical Chorley entry on the OPC website for James
