I was wondering if anyone is familiar with a house called The Sheiling, Furnace, Argyll ??? I'm reading this off a death certificate so I may be wrong about the spelling :-\

Hi Mab, I had a quick look on "192" and could only find two houses in UK with the name "The Shieling", one in Hatton, Derby, and t´other in Bellingham Northumberland. So not promising, I´m afraid.
The Post Office at Furnace could probably confirm this:
The Post Office, Furnace, Inveraray, Argyll, PA32 8XN
No email or ´phone number that I could find quickly.

Hi mab, :)
What date was the cert?
It's a lovely place, and as Thrall says, the post office should know the whereabouts of the house (unless it's no longer there)

Hello...thanks for responding. The cert is dated 1987 so not too old.
The reason I asked was when I googled I came up with a house in Tobermory, Isle of Mull which while in the same neck of the woods can't possibly be right.
We were wondering if any family still lived in Furnace.

Hi mab,
Have you tried the phone directories for the area, or 192.com?
The post office seems to be 4 miles away in Strachur, tel: 01369 860221
Here's the OS map but the Shieling isn't named :-\

I'm thinking it may have new owners who have renamed it :-\

Possible, it's a popular name in those parts :)

The 1998/99 Postal Address Book of the Inverary section mentions "The Shieling", Furnace - Post Code PA32 8XU.

I'm trying to decipher a family tree that was given to me by a distant relative of my OH. It has given me a big headache but it looks like he has a lot of living cousins in Scotland that his family don't know about yet :o
Thanks for the help :D
