Title: Petrie - Steele in "Pebbles"
Post by: daprid on Friday 19 December 08 17:44 GMT (UK)
Hello,

I am looking for information of a Petrie family who had connections with the Steele family in "Peebles" (Peeblesshire?).

My gg grandfather, David Petrie (born 3 Sep 1804 Drumhendrie, Parish of Fettercairn, Kincardineshire & died 23 Jul 1877 Braefoot, Carnoustie, Barry, Angus) married Mary Steele "Peebles" [Peeblesshire?] 12 Jun 1830 St. Cyrus Parish, Kincardineshire.

They had a son, James Petrie (born 6 Nov 1841 County Forfar, St. Vigeans Parish "Peebles" [Peeblesshire?],  Arbroath).

Any connections or information would be much appreciated - thank you.

Hello David,
I think I have found them on the 1841 census but as it is transcribed it may be slightly inaccurate.
Carmbennet, St Vigeans, Angus
David Petrie,  35, Ag Lab, born Angus
Mary Steeldo [probably means 'ditto' for Petrie surname! ], 35, born Angus
Iobel [Isobel?], 10, born Angus
John, 8, born Angus
Mary, 5, born Angus
David, 2, born Angus
So far I haven't found the family in any other census.
I don't know if you have this information or not.
Rae

Rae,

Thank you, I didn't have that information before.

May you and yours have a very merry holiday season.  The snow here in Minnesota is white and deep for this time of year and the wind-chill has been hovering around 0 degrees F.
