I am stuck on my ggggrandfather:
James Septimus Binks WILLIAMS
He was born 1846 in Colchester, Essex or at least that is what the 1881 Census says - also found this info on FreeBMD
Could anyone possibly do a lookup on the 1851 Census for me. I would suspect him to be living with his parents in Colchester. They did eventually move to Harwich, but I don't know when.
thanks in advance to anyone who answers
greetings from Germany

you could try this address http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~alefounder/essgen/ess.html
There is someone there that can do a lookup of the Colchester 1851 census index. Make sure you give them as much information as you have.

sorry it took me so long to answer ...
seems to me the second family could actually be the one. One of James Sons names was Frederick, and I do know that this WILLIAMS family originally came from somewhere around Wales, so the father coming from London seems to fit in also ...
Thankyou very much for this information ... I will have to send in for his birthcertificate next, but at least I know where to start looking ...
William WILLIAMS ... golly, thats gonna be a hardnut!
greetings from Germany

I have only just looked on Rootsweb and saw your message re James Septimus Binks Williams.
James was my Gt grandfather (on my mothers side) and I have been very intrigued to learn as much as possible about his life. You probably know by now that the 1851 census show him (age 5yrs) & his sisters as orphans.
My great grandmother was Louise Bartlett.
I have found out a few interesting things about his life, but I am stiil searching... On Friday 27 March I am visiting Harwich & hope to meet some of James SB decendents.
If possible please contact me via my email - (*)
