Hi i'm looking for the ancestors of Joe Burt.
Joseph married Alice Loveridge in Warwick in 1898. The then lived in Lutterworth and Market Harborough area.
I'm trying to trace joe's Mum and Dad but my line has gone cold. In the 1891 census he was living with his Uncle William Thornton in Byfield aged 11. Making his dob c 1880.
This would mean his Mum was either Ann, Elizabeth or Sarah Thornton- Williams sisters.
I have the family form Joe and Alice to now. I have alice's family back to 1760 but I can't trace Joe.
Can anyone help?

Hi Ali,
Have you tried finding a marriage for one of the sisters to a Burt on FreeBMD?
I'm a bit puzzled because Joseph Burt age 21 born Byfield is shown as single in 1901, but you say he was married in 1898 ??? Is the census information wrong?
Hmmm. I can see a birth registration for him in Daventry at all, or spot him in 1881!

Do you have the marriage cert, and if so, what is the name of Joseph's father? As Tati says, the 1901 census doesn't seem to match your info... :-\
Marriages Dec 1898
BIRT Joseph
LOVERIDGE Alice
Warwick 6d 1274
I can see one very doubtful possibility for a birth reg in Daventry district if the original handwriting was poor, but it's clutching at straws!
Births Jun 1879
BIRD Joseph
Daventry 3b 120
Rambler :)

Hi All
If it helps at all, my BURTs were known as BIRT, BIRD, BROWNE (!) and BROWNEN (!!)
Not forgetting to consider BIRTE, BURTE, BURD (E)
Wonder if Joe is one of mine? Any Welsh connections or Bedminster so far?
Kind regards, Arranroots ;)
p.s. possibly William THORNTON married a BURT sister?!?

Arranroots - you were in my mind when I read this! :D :D
So I'm wondering if this is little Joseph Bird, with mother Sarah:

RG11/1559 75 10
(can't see a birth registration for Thomas)
There's a hypothetical Sarah Thornton - Charles Bird Marriage in 1875.

:D
Thanks for all your replies.
The correct marriage is the one in Warwick with Alice Loveridge in 1898, Neither Alice nor their first daughter Naomi born in 1900 appear in the 1901 census at all, but as Alice and her family were travellers that is very possible.
George White that Joe was living with in the 1901 census was married to Rebecca Loveridge, an Aunt of Alice. So this seems to tie up although it says he's single.
As these are my husbands direct family I do have the certificates.
The marriage certificate of joseph and Alice was 2/11/1898 in Registry office in Warwick. Witnesses were Richard Loveridge and Mary Ann Birt.
I will try births for Bird though- thanks I'd not thought of that one.
I believe there were also welsh relatives Arranroots

I can't see where you've told us Joe's father's name and occupation (should be on the marriage certificate?)
