China - re the fashion - Aunt Maggie was born about 1882. (I suppose a woman could appear to be behind in fahion if she wears her older sister's dress.)

Auntie Maggie looks very young, quite probably it's not a handed down dress, just one in a style that was on the way out, while another style was coming in.....
