Title: Looking for O'Sullivans of Carrick-on-Suir
Post by: girtbysea on Wednesday 10 December 08 03:00 GMT (UK)
My Great grandfather was Patrick Francis O'Sullivan .  Family history indicates that he was a 'vet'.
He was married to Maria Cochrane.
His children included my Brandmother - Isabella Catherine O'Sullivan ( DOB 1866???) who travelled to Australia around 1886.  Two of his sons, again according to family history, were doctors of philosophy.  There is a possibility that they travelled to Australia and died when their boat sank in a typhoon off Westerm Australia.
I hoped that someone in Carrick-on Suir may know something or be able to give me some clues.  Thankyou.

I’ve checked Basset’s Directory 1889 for Carrick on Suir and all I can find is the following:

O’Sullivan, Patrick, Bridge St., Emigration Agent.
O’Sullivan, J.F. Meade, Bridge St., Solicitors.
O’Sullivan, Patrick, Bridge St., Rent Agent.

I  Can’t see a Vet listed anywhere.

Thanks Rody Lee.

Who knows, he may have been a horse doctor as I believe there were lots of horses in the area.  he may even have moved or could have lived somewhere near Carrick-on -Suir.  Would like to get at some church records or BDM documents.  Maybe I'll have to plan a trip!

Many thanks  Girtbysea
