-

Many thanks for that, morgana
I shall have to see how these North of the River people fit in to my lot. How do they relate to you?
-
Francis and Florence were my great grandfather and mother on my maternal side.

Hi Morgana
I also have Rufus on my tree.
My great aunt Ivy Ellen Nugent b 1908 West Ham Essex married Ernest Edward William Rufus b 1913 Essex s/o Ernest Edward Rufus and Rhoda Sansom. I am connected to the Nugent's
i am trying to find out if Ivy and Ernest had any children. Someone with a tree on Ancestry has them with two children but I cannot find any records to prove this and the tree owner has not signed on for over a year and doesn't answer messages.
Ernest Edward Rufus was the son of William Francis Rufus and Elizabeth Sarah Noble.
Please can you help at all?

Hi
I'm interested in Rufus-es and have those that are definitely related to me in my own tree on Ancestry, and those I can't prove are related on another tree - called "Rufus", not surprisingly.
Ernest Edward William Rufus appears on my Rufus tree (ie no relation or, rather, no relationship yet proved) and while I have his marriage to Ivy Ellen Nugent i have found no indication of any off-spring.
One of the problems with Ancestry is, it seems, that who people join during a 14-day free trial or similar then can't be contacted once those 14 days are up - same with anyone who has let their sub lapse.
As you are probably aware, many Ancestry trees (particularly those built by the short-timers) are not strictly accurate. What are the names of the alledged off-spring of Ernest and Ivy? I'll try to see if I have them elsewhere on my Rufus tree.

Hi Peter
Thanks for your response
The names on the other researchers tree are Martin Rufus and Hazel F Rufus. There are no dates of birth but there is a photo attached to Martin and I have found marriages for both of them so they do exist.
I just can't find any birth records for either of them...I have tried under Ivy's maiden name and also checked to see if either Ivy or Ernest were married before but didn't find anything obvious

Dear Moira
Sorry - can't help with this one. The marriage date for Hazel (1968) is possible with a 1944 date for the marriage of Ernest and Ivy but.... I too can't find any birth record for Hazel or Martin (even outside the UK with current on-line records) but suppose Ernest was a serviceman in, say, Germany, immediately after the War, then it is possible that Martin and Hazel weren't born in Britain - although how you find that out if you are no close to the family, I don't know
Good luck

Thanks Peter
There is one other option. Years ago long before I was interested in family history my dad told me that a couple of his Nugent aunts and uncles did adopt some children. I know who one of them is but can't remember who the other one was and my dad is no longer with us so I can't ask.
Guess these Rufus children are destined to remain a mystery until someone comes along who knows the answer!
