Title: Dowling ( Doolan Dooling )
Post by: Brian1 on Tuesday 02 December 08 23:22 GMT (UK)
This is rather like looking for a needle in a haystack. I am trying to find any information on a Thomas Dowling or possibly Doolin or Dooling. He was born in 1833 or thereabouts in a parish somewhere around Baltinglass as he was listed as a farm labourer when he joined the Irish constabulary in Baltinglass in 1852 using the name Thomas Dooling. He was posted to Galway and married there. His 3rd child Mary was born in Barraderry in 1865 as he returned there shortly before moving to England. I have been twice to the records office in Dublin and search all of the Parish records without trace of his birth. There was one area near Baltinglass in which the parish records had faded so the microfilm had no writing on the pages for most of 1833.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Brian

Hi Leprechaun,
Many thanks for the information on Thomas Dooling's constabulary details. The first one would appear to be him, the second is certainly not as he died in1893.
I managed to get his full police record from the archives in Dublin and his number in the Royal Irish constabulary was 15754
Many thanks for all your help.
Regards
Brian
