I'm trying to find out if my Grans Uncle William's name is on a War memorial anywhere.. she has looked for many years but cannot find him.. he was born 1893 at Shawsmill, Parish of Abbotshall and went to school in Auchtertool. He died in Turkey in WW1 1916.. does anyone know if it is possible to find out whether his name is listed on a memorial anywhere? Thankyou..

Looks like hes remembered only at Edinburgh in the Scottish National War Memorial. He maybe listed on his local church Roll Of Honour if it still exists?
Heres a copy of his Medal Index Card shows he was a Territorial soldier awarded the 1915 star,British war and Victory medals he would also have had a death plaque and scroll as he died.
It shows he died as prisoner of war and first entered theatre of war Balkans which was Gallipoli in 1915.
He was a Shoe smith Corporal.

A very old post, but I thought I would pass on the following information anyway:
Wm. Pearson. 1st F. & F.Y. is listed on the Auchterderran WW1 War Memorial.
Unveiled in 1922, this memorial commemorates 109 men from Auchterderran Parish.
Following details are from the Auchterderran Roll of Honour which is listed on the Scottish
Mining Website.
Cpl. William Rodger Pearson, 1684, Fife & Forfar Yeomanry. Died of sunstroke on 25th May,
1916 at Swas, Turkey, while a Prisoner of War.
