Hello
Just wondering if anyone is able to help me find members of my Robbins family - as miners, they moved between Somerset and Monmouthshire, finally settling in Abertillery Monmouthshire from mid-1880s ...
My Gt-gt grandparents are Elisha Robbins (b. Holcombe, Somerset c1821) and Isabella Robbins (b. Holcombe Somerset c1823). They married in Somerset in the Jan - Mar period of 1843. My Gt-grandfather, George William Robbins was born in either Tredegar or Bedwellty, Monmouthshire c.1844. I'm trying to find out if any of these three were in Somerset in 1841 (Elisha only as I don't have Isabella's maiden name yet), 1851 and 1861 - am also trying to find names of other children. Elisha and Isabella are back in Somerset in 1871 (Stratton on the Fosse) and remain there (Elisha dies before 1881 and Isabella is in almshouses in Babington on 1881 and 1891 census). George is in Somerset on 1871 but in Abertylery on 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses.
Their surname is sometimes shown as Robins.
Can anyone help find any other family info?
Thank you
Su:>

Hi Kris
Yes - I've found the other Elisha's as well ... they must surely be related somehow!!!!
I've posted the same message on the Monmouth board, as I think they may turn up in Wales now! Out of interest, who are the other Robbins in Stratton - they may be family of my elusive ones!?

Hi Kris,
I believe that the Elisha Robbins with father James and Mother Darah (Dorah) is my GGGF. I have also been confused by all the Elishas but believe that this is probably my best guess. My Elisha arrived in Adelaide S Aust in 1849 on board the Prince Regent. He was listed as farmer/ teamster and came out by himself.
Not sure if this is of any assistance. regards Anita
