Hi my hunting is going nowhere :-\ joseph smith was ( i think) married to gladys surname unknown in walsall, they adopted my dad in 1946. I can find no record of their marriage and therefore no maiden name for gladys and no parents/siblings of either.
I know gladys had a sister augusta who married frederick chamley and that both joseph and gladys were registered as blind.
This is a real challenge for someone cz I am all out of ideas.
PLEASE PLEASE HELP

You do already know Gladys' maiden name, Thompson, as dawnsh kindly looked up the marriage of Frederick and Augusta for you on this other thread.
It now means going through the GRO index for marriages and deaths - your local library should have these free to search if you don't have a subscription to a pay-site

I cant find a birth of gladys smith, nor a marraige to joseph and so cant be sure of the maiden name

You won' t find her birth as Gladys Smith- that's her married name.
AS Barbara just pointed out to you,Dawn had already found that her maiden name was Thompson on the previous thread you started.
Best to add to original threads and not start new ones,till you are happy you have the answer to your query,and then you mark it(in the title) as COMPLETED.
