I don't think I am repeating myself here but I may be overlapping a previous thread. However, there is another question I wonder if someone could answer.
I clicked on Boongie Pams' link to Dumfries and Galloway 1851 Census. I had previously been directed to William Marshall and Agnes in Mochrum. However, here is a Mary Marshall grand-daughter of William aged 22, occupation Seemstress, Household No. 2/35.
I have tried to find out which son of William Marshall is this Mary's father but cannot pin him down. Can anyone give me any suggestions please?

i have found on the 1841 census
william marshall age 63
elizabeth marshall age 59
william marshall age 40
mary marshall age 11
they are at eldrig farm mochrum wigtownshire
i think mary could possibly be the daughter of william marshall jnr B1801

Oooooh, yes please, Alex. I am trying to collect all pics of these Marshalls to see if there are any family likenesses anywhere! Have any of you got the tinker's cross on the palm of you hand as one of the William Marshall's had in Andrew McCormick's Book on The Galloway Tinkers?

I would agree that Mary is the daughter. The family are complicated and they don't seem to age as the age always changes.
William married Margaret Neil. Other members of the family were Robert who married Esther Stanhope.
Perhaps we are related.

Sometimes I wonder if I am in my right mind! ;)
You see I have a William Marshall who is on the 1841 census with Alexander Marshall (brother of Robert Marshall who married Esther Stanhope) at Creetown born c1828. I have him marrying a Mary Jane O'Neil born Stranraer. This is not the same chap as yours. I think all first-born Marshalls were namedWilliam!!!
If I post a photo from Andrew McCormick's book called The Galloway Tinklers I hope it's ok. Had a bit of trouble making it smaller but hopefully it's alright now.

Oh, but you cannot read it. Sorry! ;D
It's a William Marshall with his wife Katie O'Neil!! So who are these people and when were they around?
