Hi
I am hoping that someone has access to Wittersham Parish Records. I am looking for details of a direct ancestor, Louisa Pellett, born around 1808, father Thomas. (Maybe spelt Pelbett?)
Thanks
Mark

Hi there.
The entry in Wittersham parish baptisms simply reads as follows:-
20th Nov 1808 Pellett Louisa of Thomas and Amy

Hi Scobie
Thanks very much for that. Now that I have confirmation I am on the right track, I will probably order the LDS film to look at. Did you happen to notice if there were related entries?

Hi Mark.
Sorry, I just checked for the entry you specified. I can always check further next time I visit Ashford Library if you wish. I assume you are interested in any brothers or sisters there may be.

Hi Scobie,
I just had one census with Wittersham on it, so wasn't 100% confident on the village. I should have made my request a bit broader.
You're right I would be interested in any brothers or sisters, but until your post, I didn't know who Louisa's mother was, so anything on Thomas and Amy, eg marriage, birth would also be appreciated.
Subsequently to your reply I did find three children born in Canterbury 1812 - 1828, and I already have Thomas living in Canterbury by 1825.
I'm in Australia, so very grateful for your help.
Regards

Hi mark.
I will see what I can do with the Wittersham registers for around the early 1800's period. It will have to wait until I am next in Ashford library, which may be a week or two. I will contact you then, hopefully with some positive information.
Regards,
Scobie

Hi Mark
Do you have the census details for the Amy (remarried and born Folkestone) in Canterbury? If not, somebody will post the details for you.

Hi Casalguidi,
I hadn't seen the census, but now I have found it, although I read it as daughter Caroline who married. Thanks for the clue!

Hi Mark.
I have been in the Wittersham registers and have the following for you, some of which may be of use.
Bap. 25/07/1810 Pellett Henry of Thomas & Amy
Mar. 31/01/1788 William Pellett married Elizabeth Davis
Bap. 20/01/1788 Mary Pellett, baseborn daughter of Elizabeth Davies
Bap. 04/06/1789 Pellett Ann of William & Elizabeth
Bap. 15/06/1796 Pellet Hannah of William & Elizabeth
I checked a number of years either side of these entries, but found nothing else.
Regards,
Scobie

Hi Scobie
Thank you very much for looking through the registers. Once again you have found something for me to work on. Hopefully it will lead me to Thomas Pellett and Amy.
Cheers
Mark
PS. Interestingly, from Casalguidi's hint, I found that Louisa's sister Caroline became the aunt of Frederick Warne, the publisher of Peter Rabbit.

http://www.familysearch.org (select Record Search Pilot) has recently been updated with lots of Kent records ................ I could see a possible marriage for Thomas and Amy plus baptisms for a number of children.
Everybody loves Peter Rabbit - what an interesting connection :)

Hi casalguidi
Thank you very much for the advice re pilot search. There is a lot more to find, isn't there. Well I did have Amy Thomsett pencilled in, but only as the only Amy born in Folkestone (1851 census) at the right time. This record confirms her id.
I am very impressed that you went back to this old post and updated it!
Thanks
Mark
