Hi
This is the only Elizabeth Alice Colman birth on freebmd roughly around her birthyear
Births June qtr 1885
Colman Elizabeth Alice Yarmouth 4b 8
See below
-
IF all his names were specified on his Birth Cert, then of 10 Fred* John Ellis from 1877 to 1881, only one is anywhere near the area needed ..
Births Sep 1877
Ellis Frederick John Monmouth v11a p26
I'll see if he can be found on the 1901 census ...
PS. What was Fred's occupation shown as on the 1908 Cert ?

1901 - RG13/4922; Folio: 29; Page: 23 - West Dean Monmouthshire / Gloucestershire
Coalway Lane End
All born West Dean
William Ellis 48 Head Coal Miner Cutter born West Dean
Elizebeth Ellis 59 Wife
Fredrick Ellis 23 son Coal Miner Cutter
Albert Howell 18 Stepson do
George Ellis 16 son Hod Boy
Henry Ellis 14 son
Tom Perkins 8 Grandson
so, apart from a 2 year age discrepancy, it fits - but cannot be proven yet ....
-
ah, post crossed - what was Fred's occupation at ,marriage - does it match ?
West Dean was Glos, then Monmouth, so is included in the Welsh section of the 1901 census.
How about Marriage witnesses - any familiar names ?
-
Ignore the Yarmouth birth reg above - IGI entry shows parents as Charles & Elizabeth
-
shame, just started looking for her in 1901 ..... :(
-
How about this one instead - Coleman
Births December qtr 1887
Coleman Elizabeth Alice Bridgend 11a 585

Hi and thanks newf, unless it is a big coincidence, this seems like i have found Frederick John, becuase it was witnessed in the presence of George Ellis who pops up on the 1901 census, and also Florrie Perkins, whom we have a Tom Perkins grandson also at the same address, this is great news thank you again

Although the 1891 census image appears to show John Coleman as 52 - there is a line through the entry so he may have been 32 in view of this 1901 entry for Glamorgan - Peterstone entire

Hi Glen
I have come across your query Re the Ellis/Colman family.
I have a William Ellis married firstly to a Beatrice Driver and secondly to Elizabeth Howells (nee Nash) who is my husband's GGGrandmother. The family are from Coalway Land End in the Forest of Dean. On the 1901 census Frederick Ellis can be found living in Coalway Land End along with his father and step-mother. Also living there at the same time is my husband's Great Grandfather Albert Howell.
Out of all the Ellis and Howell children at least 7 of them moved to the Bridgend area, the first being Henry Howells in the mid 1890's.
Hope this is of some help.
Sian

Thanks Sian, William is my wife Alison Billingam (nee Ellis) GGrandfather, her grandfather was Frederick Ellis, and her father was Arthur Ellis who married Olive Rose Bateman, you are right about a lot of the Ellis clan moving to the Bridgend area for the mining. Frederick moved to Brynna, not far from where my wife was born in the village of Llanharry, she moved away from the area in 1987, and we have only just started to delve into her side of the family glen
