Title: Barnston
Post by: lornadoone on Monday 24 November 08 10:17 GMT (UK)
Hi.
I just recently looked at my fathers birth certificate from 1928, and his place of birth was given as ''Barn End'', Oakland Terrace, Barnston. I have no idea if this house is still standing[ probably not]. or if anyone remembers it.Also, can anyone tell me if ''Windermere Terrace''
 in Heswall still exists?

                                 Many thanks
                                           Jenny

Hi Jenny,
Have you tried http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ or http://uk8.multimap.com/
There is also http://maps.cheshire.gov.uk/tithemaps/ where you can compare the modern map with earlier maps.

Hi Jenny
I have located Oakland Terrace, Barnston in the Liverpool A/Z. I rather think it's in Heswall but probably, the Parish of Barnston.
I'm visiting Heswall tomorrow afternoon so will drive down O/Terr to see if the house is still standing.
Can't find any reference to Windermere Terrace tho'.
Regards
Dave

Hello, I saw your post from 2008 about Barn End, Oaklands Terrace.  My husband Brian Dodd lived there, from 1937 when he was born, his mother and father lived there with five children.  Barn End was originally a farm managers house and then terraced houses were built on to it to form Oaklands Terrace.  It then was known as number 4 Oaklands Terrace, but this changed to number 14 when the terrace was extended.  We sold the house to our son who re-introduced the original name and it is now Barn End again, despite being in the middle of the terrace.  He eventually sold it to his former wife, who still lives there.   cheers, Veronica Dodd.
