Hi there,
Seeking more information about "Greggs Green Island Hotel" and Kyneton Restaraunt (Caversham) C 1865 in Dunedin.
All I know is that the owners were Henry Gregg 1864-65. While an Eliza Gregg ran the Shepherd's Arms at the same time.
I would particulary like images or photo's of these buildings/owners - and any info on them.
My connection is a sad one, in that my GGG Grandfather, James Potter committed suicide via overdose of laudanum in the Green Island hotel in 1865. James was a publican himself (keeper of Kyneton restaraunt). He opened the Styx hotel with wife Helen, in 1851 on the Central Otago gold rush trail...
I believe James' descendants kept in contact with the Greggs, and paticularly with "Jack Gregg" and family who moved to Christchurch in the early 1900's. We have many old postcards that refer to the Greggs.

Hi, thankyou all for your responses... I have never seen the RAOGK website before.
I was in Dunedin about 3 years ago and managed to visit both Hopkins library and Settlers museum - didn't really find too much apart from one photo that could possibly be the hotel and a book that lists many of the early gold rush publicans.
I might try them again, you never know! :)
