recent update. i have now got emma marion mortimer going 3 times to canada 1913,1920. and 1928 last time she went was june 16th 1928 to a place called cotham, near dubac, sask ,canada . seems she was returning there. says she was a house keeper for a family called edwards.. i have no more info on her after that. so she was stil emma mortimer in 1928.. so i need someone to look up marriages AFTER 1928 in canada..or if you have any info on how i should proceed to find her. i don't know if she did marry or what her death record is..or where she was after 1928..the nearer i get to her the more records are closed to me.. ::) :-\from wendy mortimer
Title: canadian marriages after 1927
Post by: moggie57 on Sunday 23 November 08 20:09 GMT (UK)
need someone to look up canadian marriages after 1927 .my great great aunt emma marian mortimer born 1888/1889. born bandon hill croydon, surrey england.3 times went to canada ,on 3rd trip it was a return trip presumably to same household ,she was housekeeper to A. EDWARDS at COTHAM,NEAR DUBAC,SASK,CANADA travelling on 16th june 1928. where she went from there or if she married? (relatives say she did marry, and to a mean man who would not let her return home for her mother's funeral) in 1937.so presumably she married after 1927...if anyone can help i would be very grateful. i have acsess to ancestry.com and i'm an hour away from kew record centre in england.i have 1901 census for surrey and sussex and have burial index too for england (though i must point out that the burial index is not complete as its only places that have donated their records to the  index.also i cannot print out from these. you just have to trust me..i don't charge  anything ,.for using my own records . but if you wanted me to visit kew then i would charge the travel fare.which would be £10 inc. :)

Hi, Wendy:

Have you checked the website for the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society:
http://www.saskgenealogy.com/WebSite2.htm

Dubuc seems to be a teeny-tiny village.  Perhaps someone at the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society could tell you which library to contact to inquire about directories and newspaper marriage and death indexes.  You might also ask them about which church Emma would have attended (if you know her denomination) and where its records are held.

The Albert Family Histories Society has some info on Saskatchewan:
http://www.afhs.ab.ca/index.html

This is an interesting historical maps project.  Perhaps there might be something of use here:

Josephine

You're welcome, Wendy, and thanks so much for your kind offer.   :)

What is the burial index for England?  Does it cover the 1800s - early 1900s in the London area?  I have a number of folks who died in England but whose final resting place is unknown.  Should I send you a PM, since this is off-topic for this thread?  I don't want to distract from your query.

I am in Toronto, Ontario and I don't have any personal knowledge of Saskatchewan.  That's why I hope the genealogical society will be able to point you in the right direction.  Such small places might not have had street/phone directories of their own but they might have been included in a larger town's.  The same goes for the newspaper.

Once you know who to contact, if Cotham was included in any directories, make sure the person checks under Edwards if they don't find Emma under her own surname.  Then, ask them to check if there are  listings by address in the back of the book.  They should check the address listing, too, since Emma might be listed there as a boarder.  (I can't remember how because it was a few years ago, but I found my great-uncle in some directories that way.)

There's usually a way to find information after the cut-off dates but it takes a bit more work.  It's always worth a try.

Regards,
Josephine

seems to have something about a death, obituary in Winnipeg Free Press Sep 15 1959, excerpt on Google (with some messing about to get as much of it as I could:
Quote
JAMES REID 70 Man pioneer farmer who died Sept 8 in Hospital was juried in Wawanesa Cemetery owing funeral service in St Anglican Church Rev RW English officiated Mr Reid came to Canada in 1912 farmed in Wawanesa and Cypress River and retired to in 1956 His wife the former Emma Marion Mortimer survives also hree daughters and one son by a (something missing here?) Mrs Richard Mrs Percy Barry and Mrs Siggi Storm and John D and 13 grandchildren

As this has been churned out by some sort of automatic text scanner (hence things like 'hree' and missing words), it may be worth seeing about getting a full version. I think perhaps the children, or some of them - maybe just the son -  were by a former wife?

There's a marriage in Manitoba (specifically in Wawanesa), for James Reid to Ruth Beatrice Robertson, and then a death in 1929 for Ruth Beatrice Reid, RM Oakland, aged 35. Possibly after that he remarried to Emma?

if you send me your list of people to look up on the burial index...i will look for you. i must point out that its only cemetries and churches that have donated their records and not everyone will be on the burial index.. say like my ancestor hugh hamilton mortimer died in south london ,i looked everywhere for him ,turns up he was buried in sussex..(south coast england)...he wasn't on the burial index that i have..but on the sussex burial records.anyway if you give me everyone you looking for. i will do my best..from wendy xx ;D
