That is what I am hunting around for - trying to trace each person as far as i can.
What else do you have - to save duplication?
Have you found May, age 4 ish in 1891, I have not been successful in that.
What else does it say on the birth cert about May's parents?
on the face of it, Mary Golden appears to be a local lass from Bingley - we do not know what she did or where she went between 1891 and 1901 but she is still living in the Main Street and doing her worsted spinning.
So it looks, maybe, that it was young May that came to her.
Do we have a death for Mr Golden, or a whereabouts for him in 1901? Mary says married, but he is not with her. When/where did she marry Mr G? What does he do for a living? Maybe if he travelled in his job he came across May needing a home and brought her back to Bingley.

So - IF this is the same MAy Doherty - any "adoption" must have taken place after 1891 and before 1901. And what is more, you know her parents were still alive and well in 1894.
Have you traced the Doherty family after 1891?
The ref for anyone else looking is RG12 3172 8 10
Image certainly looks like Currie!
PAtrick and Eliz are born Ireland.
Eldest 2 children, ALbert and Currie are bn Bradford
Rest of children bn Gorton
living at Gorton Brook Str, Gorton

i cannot find a birth or death for lilly s and currie p but i did find a death for cyril patrick in 1906 age 11 in the right area. there is a birth for albert gregory, may alberta, floris rose and easter eve. I know albert and may did get to adulthood as joseph sidney seen them and albert was supposed to be working for fair people called lewis, i have also found a marriage for may a and floris r in the dec Q 1915 so could of got married on the same day. patrick dohertys father was john engineer deceased and elizabeth obriens father was gregory deceased plasterer.

Getting the marriage cert for MAy might help - to see whether she names Patrick as her father - or alternatively an adoptive father....
I havent managed to get ANY of them in 1901 yet!
-
joseph sidney was in a catholic home in 1901 and i also found a florry doherty 15 in a girls home this could be floris r .i have also found a death for an elizabeth doherty in 1896 in chorlton aged 39 so this is probably the right one and the reason for the children being all over the place.

I was beginnig to think that either the family had all gone to Ireland to visit rellies, or the parents had died and the family was split - the latter scenario adding weight to theory that May was adopted by the Goldens.
Have you got Elizabeths death cert to see if she was wife or widow of Patrick?
-
no not yet . i will probably wait till after christmas and get mays marriage cert and hope for the best.

Going back to the Goldens.
I see Bage married Patrick Golden in 1894.
Now in 1901 he is not with her, but I cannot see him anywhere obvious.
But - I DO note that the Patrick Golden's that are in 1901 are generally Irish. So that is one link between MAry nee Bage and little MAy. Mary's husband could well have been Irish and therfore known of the Doherty's plight through rellies or friends.
MAry/PAtrick's marriage cert might twll us more about Patrick (age, occupation etc) so it will be easier to find him on 1901, death for him etc.
A death for either hin or Mary might help - as a Will may mention their adoptive daughter....
-
Hope you get it sorted!
I am sure there will be a document somewhere that confirms it for you.

Hello,
There is a Florence Doherty aged 15 yrs in the Girls Mutual Aid Home Chorlton at RG13; Piece: 3699; Folio: 151; Page: 2- this may be the one you mention as Florrie?
What is odd, is that Currie P is 7 in 1891- born around 1884 then. Lancashire BMD only has a Cyril b 1896. ??? That death would fit with a birth in 1896 ish.
Here is Easter E- I think. (Easter Eve b 1890) - interestingly in Yorkshire - transcribed as Eva Easton but looks like Easter
1901 RG13; Piece: 4211; Folio: 6; Page: 4
57 Golderd Rd Wortley (nr Leeds)
Ann Whitehouse head widow 50 yrs b Doncaster
Mary Agnes daur 27 yrs dressmaker b Preston Lancs
Catherine daur 23 yrs dressmaker b Preston Lancs
Emily daur 22 yrs dressmaker b Leeds Yorkshire
Wilfred Whitehouse son 12 yrs b Leeds Yorkshire
Eva Easter Doherty adopted 10 yrs b Manchester Lancs
John Wm Callaghan 27 yrs boarder house painter b Ossett Yorks
it does look then as though they were just ordinary adoptions - what do you think?
-
yes it does look that way but why would someone with plenty of children adopt.
Janet
-
I agree it does look odd. I can't find any connection though.
