Title: Adamson/Walker
Post by: DarrenO on Saturday 22 November 08 12:30 GMT (UK)
Located both my great grandparents in the 1911 census, looking for help in going back further generations

Robert Walker born 1889? married Mary Murtha born 1883? married 1910?

John Adamson  born 1874? married Margaret Nugent born 1874? married 1897?

Any help either direct or by pointing me towards other online resources would be greatly appreciated

Regards
Darren

Hello DarrenO,
Welcome to Rootschat.

Have you tried the LDS web side?
www.familysearch.org

Or you might like to search this http://ifhf.brsgenealogy.com
You have to register before you can search for records, but to view it costs 5 euro. It can become very expensive if you are not sure of who your looking for.

I looked at the 1911 census and from Robert Walker and Mary Murtha i found theses on the above site.

Church Baptism Murtagh Mary 1882 Co. Westmeath
Church Baptism Murtagh Mary Joan 1882 Co. Westmeath
Church Baptism Murtagh Mary 1883 Co. Westmeath
Church Baptism Murtagh Mary 1883 Co. Westmeath
Church Baptism Murtagh Mary Teresa 1883 Co. Westmeath
Church Baptism Murtagh Mary 1884 Co. Westmeath
Church Baptism Murtagh Mary 1884 Co. Westmeath

This will get you going for a bit

Best of luck

You probably have enough information to apply for marriage certs for both of them. See the application form here: http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm

It will give their address at the time of marriage and their fathers' names. That should help sift through all the 'possibles' on IFHF.

Hi

Rekindling an old thread looking for assistance on a roadblock I still have.

This is specifically in relation to Margaret Nugent - She married John Adamson in January 1897, she is listed as full age so born prior to 1876. Her father is Patrick and her address as 43 New Street. Jane Nugent is a witness from 1 Clanbrassil St.

Recorded as being 28 y.o. and from Dublin in the 1901 census so estimated birth 1872/3 and 37 y.o. in 1911 census so esitmated birth 1873/4.

Unable to locate a birth at all, was there a percentage that were never civilly registered, any help in locating a church baptism would be very much appreciated.

Regards
Darren

Link to Civil Record of marriage on Jan 18 1897 (http://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/e2cc516985181)

1901 census for ADAMSON family (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Fitzwilliam/Camden_Villa/1305718/)

1911 census (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Merchants_Quay__part_of_/Warrenmount_Place/77384/)

Margaret and John's son Joseph Patrick was baptised in Harrington Street
His sponsors were Michael and Mary Anne SMYTH
A Michael SMYTH and Mary Anne NUGENT had at least two children baptised in the same church
with sponsors Jane NUGENT and William NUGENT
LINK (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/search.jsp?namefm=michael&namel=smyth&exact=&name2fm=&name2l=nugent&location=dublin&yyfrom=1890&yyto=1900&diocese=&parish=&century=&decade=&sort=&pageSize=100&ddBfrom=&mmBfrom=&yyBfrom=&ddMfrom=&mmMfrom=&yyMfrom=&ddDfrom=&mmDfrom=&yyDfrom=&ddBto=&mmBto=&yyBto=&ddMto=&mmMto=&yyMto=&ddDto=&mmDto=&yyDto=&locationB=&locationM=&locationD=&member0=&member1=&member2=&member3=&member4=&member5=&member6=&member7=&member8=&member9=&namef0=&namef1=&namef2=&namef3=&namef4=&namef5=&namef6=&namef7=&namef8=&namef9=&namel0=&namel1=&namel2=&namel3=&namel4=&namel5=&namel6=&namel7=&namel8=&namel9=&event=B&keyword=&submit=Search) to follow as these siblings and help locate the family

for example
Probably the SMYTH family in 1901 as SMITH LINK (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Wood_Quay/Bride_Street/1346520/)

and in 1911 LINK (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Mansion_House/York_Street__Part_of_/76801/)
Unfortunately Mary is now deceased but luckily Michael wrote how long they were married
This implies this is possibly them marrying in 1881 LINK (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/a323190069225) showing Mary's parents as Patrick NUGENT and Mary GHEHAN - most likely GREHAN

Patrick Nugent 1862 at Lambs Court

Thanks for all of the above, still no Margaret birth cert/baptism to prove that Patrick and Mary are the parents although most likely, seems to be a gap between 1862 (Mary's birth) and 1881 when Mary gets married to Michael Smyth.

William Nugent and Teresa Buckley (nee Nugent) living in New St. on the 1911 census are the children of James Nugent and Catherine Delany, still probably related but not the roadblock beater.

With Margaret being recorded as being from Dublin in the two census, is there missing church records or records not online that could account for this, I know civilly not everyone was registered because it was a cost many families couldn't afford but in Catholic Ireland of the time Margaret wouldn't have gone un-baptised.

There could be gaps in the church records or portions that are difficult to decipher but most likely reasons for not finding a birth registration are that it's under a different name (different or no first name given), mis-transcribed, took place in a different area or has been left off the index.

Many, not all, extracted Irish births 1864-c1881 are in this LDS database-

Hi
From researching this family  I have identified another possible sister of Margaret Nugent.
Catherine Nugent married Edward Walsh in Aug 1890.Marriage took place in church of SS Michael and Johns. Catherine full age so born before 1870 Father Patrick Address 39 Upper Mercer st.Edwards occupation Painter. Witnesses Jane Nugent and  Richard Henderson

http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/2eed620016275

Again I can find no birth or baptismal record for Catherine Nugent. The  lack of records for the family between the birth of Patrick in 1862 and the marriage of Mary in 1881 (19 years ) is very puzzling to us.

Thanks Dathai, you have all the right detail for the Walkers, this side of my family is no longer at issue but does need further investigation as normal. Problem is the Nugents for myself and Gerry. We can't definitively locate a birth/baptism for Margaret Nugent and in turn link the other Nugent's under Patrick Nugent and Mary Geoghagan.

Extreme long shot but maybe worth noting

Margaret Nugent bap Jul 14 1867 in Boyle Co. Roscommon
Parents Patrick NUGENT and Mary GEEGAN
Sponsors Thomas REILLY and Mary Anne CORCORAN

There are no other baptisms to this combinations of parents in plus/minus 10 years unless mistranscribed - I didn't read through the originals.

The reason I mention is that I have one family all born Dublin supposedly but in fact located one in Carlow - never worked out why!

I have several baptised before being born, well civil registered!
Means you have to check everything and accept may anomalies  ;)

The one My Luck posted is Boyle
It's quite faint.

The one you posted St.Peters doesn't seem to exist. All very odd.
