Hi, I wonder if anyone can help,I have just started the Scottish branch of my family tree. I'm trying to trace my Grand parents birth dates.
All the information I have is my mothers birth certificate, she was Alice Trotter Muir born August 28 1910, at 202, Possil Road Glasgow.
James Muir was a Bricklayer Journeyman, his wife was Mary Clark, they were married on 12 November 1897 in Glasgow.
Any information on the above would be very much appreciated.
Kind Regards
Tomscot ;D

James Muir and Mary Clark were married November 12th 1897 at St Saviour's Episcopal Church, Glasgow
James was 20 and lived at 9 Water Street, Glasgow. His parents were William Muir, bricklayer (journeyman) and Elizabeth Muir m.s. (maiden surname) Bragg (deceased)
Mary was 19 and lived at 16 Water Street, Glasgow. Her parents were John Clark, iron moulder (journeyman) (deceased) and Alice White, previously Clark, m.s. Trotter
Witnesses were Hugh M'Colligan and Lizzie Muir
Will see if I can find them in 1901. Great work, Tom. :)

Hello Tom,
I have only recently discovered that my great grandfather William Muir was married, and had other children. My grandmother Frances “Fanny” Muir was born in 1893 illegitimate daughter of William Muir and Elizabeth Macarthur nee Donnelly, in Church Place Glasgow.
Elizabeth Bragg was still alive at the time, but in an asylum.
This means, I think, that we are cousins. There are lots of poorhouse records concerning Elizabeth Macarthur, and William Muir in the Mitchell library. He died in 1899.
His parents were James Muir and Jane Wilson but can’t find their marriage.
Have found Elizabeth Bragg had 2 illegitimate children Catherine and George who took the name Muir, and 7 legitimate children, at least 3 of whom died young.
There is mention of Elizabeth Braggs father George being in trouble with the law, domestic abuse and drink. Can’t find her birth in Dunfermline c1845.
Anyway, really excited to find out about Williams family and many potential cousins!
