Title: 3rd Presbyterian Church Ballymena
Post by: valbeth on Thursday 20 November 08 04:45 GMT (UK)
G'day, new at this so I suppose someone will guide me if I'm doing it wrong.
Does anyone ever offer to go to the Public Records Office Belfast for a look up.
I went to my local LDS office this morning (in Sydney Aust) but they don't have what I'm searching for. I'll leave it at that for now.

Two possibilites depending on the date and who wrote the information:

Wellington St. Presbyterian Church, Ballymena (3 rolls of microfilm):
baptisms 1863-1871/1863-1962
marriages 1864-1871/1864-1892/1892-1920

Although a congregation of the Synod of Ulster was started in Wellington Street in 1828 known as "Second Ballymena" (it became "Third" after1840) the present congregation was really erected in 1863. It claims lineage with the earlier one, of course, and for some time after the change it fought hard to retain the title "Third Ballymena". In the Records, however, it is now the fourth charge. (For details of the years 1828-1863 see Ballymena, West Church). - A History if Congregations in the Presbyterian Churchin Ireland 1610-1982.

West Presbyterian Church, Ballymena:
baptisms 1829-1945
marriages 1830-1832, 1845-1903

G'day aghadowey,
Thanks for your quick response. The librarian from the Presbyterian Historical Society told me it would be West Church I'm looking for. I'm after baptisms for 1854 and 1858 or there abouts for Janet c Ritchie and her brother James Ritchie,he is my Gt GT Grandfather. Their parents were married in the 3rd Presbyterian Church in 1852. I've sent off an email to the minister at the West Church to see if he can help.
Thanks again

Thanks, sorry for delay in response, had computer trouble.
My GT Grandfather James' father was John so thats out.
The librarian from Presbyterian History told me the marriage would be recorded on microfilm IP/105, does anyone go to the PRONI on a regular basis who could copy it for me please? Also would it be likely baptisms would be on that for 1854-1858?

PRONI closed until 5 December for annual stocktaking. Coleraine Library also have a copy of the church records on microfilm. Church records can't be photocopied but you can take notes from the records.

Not sure where you live but libraries here don't usually do look-ups of this nature as the church records can be difficult to read and it usually takes a while to find the records you're looking for on the reel.
