I have recently been doing some research on a Laurence Patrick Sheahan born 1888 in Ireland. I have managed to find his marriage in 1914 in Marylebone London using ancestry.co.uk, however nothing else. I believe that he came over from Ireland to London and got married, then went back to Ireland before finally moving to the Liverpool area.
Anyway, a global search on Ancestry does show that they have an Irish Constabulary record for a Laurence P Sheahan which I can't view without upgrading my account. Would anybody who has access to these records mind looking at it for me on the off chance that it is the person I am looking for?
Thanks in advance :)

the originals are in Kew, near London, I understand.
Microfilm copies are in National Archive, Dublin - there's quite a lot of info in them
I think the ref no. given above is for LDS micro films.
I can't remember if the Kew/ Dublin stuff has the same numbers

looked at the RIC index today - Lawrence P. Sheahan's number was 63765
this implies he joined early in the year 1908, I think

HI JulioGeordio, I've just come across your post re Laurence Patrick Sheahan. He was my grandfather. Didn't know he was in the Irish Constabulary etc. although I remember my mum telling me he was a policeman for a while - I thought in London. Anyway, to be as brief as I can here's what I know. He married Honora Moylan and they had six children. My mother, Noreen, the eldest, was born in Fulham in 1914. I think the family moved back to Ireland for a while as my aunt (Margaret known as Kath) was born in Arklow about four years later. They eventually landed in Port Sunlight in Merseyside and the family was for a long time connected with Lever Bros, the soap manufacturers. The other children were Larry (killed in Beiruit during World War 2), Ted, died in the 70s, Jimmy, also died in the 70s and Mary, died in the 80s. My mother Noreen, the eldest, died last in November 2008 preceded by a month by Kath who still lived in Port Sunlight. As far as I know, most of Laurence's children worked for Lever Bros at some time. Noreen for 20+ years. Tragedy struck the family hard in 1933 when Laurence died in a fire on board a ship anchored in Bromborough docks. The story goes that he escaped but went back in to save a mate and never came out again. My aunt Kath had a certificate commemorating his bravery. The widowed family suffered much hardship as you can imagine, and his wife Honora died in the mid 1950s. I think they are both buried in Bebington cemetery. Hope this helps, If there is anything else you want to know, please post. I'm intrigued to know what your connection is!! Regards ANDY

Laurence Patrick Sheahan was the younger brother to my Great Grandmother Annie Sheahan nee Piper.
I cannot give you any information on Laurence but can support that he was killed in a fire and I believe there are still newspaper reports on this incident

Thank you. He was a brother to my Great Grandmother. He died in 1933 a hero saving lives.

He may have been a policeman elsewhere too. I wouldn't rule that out.

Thank you. I do appreciate any input on My GG side of the family.
All the best in these troubled times.
