William married Mary White (b. Brighton 1792) in Brighton, 1811 (only Mary features in the 1841 census, suggesting William deceased by then). Can anybody advise names his parents/place+date birth? (I've found Wm Brunton b1789 Westminster, but no evidence to link).

He was still around in 1829 as they had a son Thomas baptised at Brighton on 10 May 1829.
Nothing additional on the Sussex Marriage Index either, just botp.

The IGI also records a William & Mary Brunton having 2 children baptised in
Cliffe-Countess of Huntingdons, Lewes.
Mary Ann Bapt 1818 and William Bapt 1820.
If this is the same couple, you may find some more info in Lewes as well.
Any helpful parents' or witness names on the 1811 marriage enrty?
FreeBMD has a good number of entries under Brunton of Brighton from 1844, starting with the marriage of a Charles Frederick Brunton to Mary Pearcy (also on IGI). Do you think Charles could have been a relative too?
A Thomas Brunton is also on FreeBMD, marrying in Brighton in 1851.
You probably need to look at all the early Brighton FreeBMD entries to sort into the family groups you already know of.

Brunton Post script
Brunton is such an unusual name for Brighton, it may be useful to know that Tim Carder reported that the manager/owner of the Theatre Royal in 1806 was a John Brunton. Whether there was a family link through him, I couldn't say.

Roy, many thanks. Charles Frederick was my g/g grandfather. I've managed to do everyone descending from William Mark, but am stuck at him. The Ancestry website shows his marriage to Mary 1811, but only the 'general' record - that said, it gives the parish name and film no. Now, I'm quite new to all this - would there be a way of accessing that record without having to travel to Brighton? (pathetic question I know!).
There are still a few Bruntons in Sussex, 'my' lot moved to Lambeth in 1880's, thence Mitcham.

Not sure that you will find anything on the marriage other than the names and date. The Sussex Marriage Index has just those details, plus that they were both of this parish. If it had been in 1812 there would have been witnesses names plus if WMB had been from another parish.
The St Nicholas PRs have been filmed by the LDS and you should be able to order these through your local Family History Centre. He will be in there if he was buried from that parish. You could also check the marriage to see if there is any further detail.

What was the finacial status of your Brunsons, did they come from the wealthy, middle or dare I say it, the labouring classes? I ask because the better off and tradesmen often appear in some early Street directories and voting lists, so through these you can often pinpoint a particular year a family arrived in the town.
Those with wealth also left wills, naming beneficaries and family were usually first to inherit. If wealthy, your William Mark may have left something to a sibling indicating where they lived. Copies of pre 1858 wills can be found and purchased on the Internet, but the website address escapes me at the moment.

Not trying to dominate things or reccommending you to look elsewhere, but if you have access to the Genes Reunited website you will find a Theresa and Maxine whose Brunton family interests match yours right down to the William marrying Mary White. Now if you are new to all this and want to avoid unnecessary work, travel and expense, I think a good thing to do initially would be to contact them and pool your mutual findings.

Wills proved at the Court of Canterbury (PCC) pre 1858 are online at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/ But not all wills from other consistory courts sadly. However if they had property in various places that generally went to Canterbury so it is always worth looking.

New book out on Tom Sayers, Brighton's world famous bare knuckle fighter, mentions that his second was another Brighton man, Henry Brunton. Was that Henry also one of yours?
