My grandad was Arthur Connah.  As far as I know he was born around 1900 in Mold.  He married Nellie Salome Aldersey who was from Stafford around 1919 (sorry about vagueness here) and had 3 children whilst still living in Wales.  He was a coal miner.  The three children were Evelyn (1920 - 2000) John Alexender (1922- 2001) Bertha (1923-1990).  They then all moved in the late 1920s to Nottinghamshire, along with several of his cousins.  My Mum was born shortly after they moved Noreen Connah (1930-1995).

The Connah's were boxers and I found the following information today:

Connah Arthur(Sutton-in-Ashfield) total bouts 13 - active 1930s
Connah Battling(Mansfield) total bouts 40 - active 1920s to 1930s
Connah Ben(Mansfield) total bouts 17 - active 1930s
Connah Boy(Sutton-in-Ashfield) total bouts 26 - active 1920s to 1930s
Connah Charlie(Mansfield) total bouts 32 - active 1920s to 1930s
Connah Ginger(Sutton) total bouts 10 - active 1930s
Connah Young(Mansfield) total bouts 7 - active 1920s to 1930s

My Grandad (Arthur Connah) died in Skegby, Nottinghamshire in 1975.  He was a coal miner, a union man and a labour councillor.

Mmm. doesn'tquite add up - Grandad wasaminer all his working life, but it is possible that your Grandad was a nephew of my Grandad. In which case, your Grandad was a cousinof my Mum. That would make your Grandad around 80 to 90?

Hiss wife was Salome Nellie Conna (nee Aldersey) - known as Nellie.  She died in 1974 - if she were alive still she would be 110 (nearly 11).

Unfortunately, neither my Grandad or Grandma or any of their children are alive now.

My Mum would have been 81 this year if she were still alive and she was the youngest.

Which means if we are related it would be by your Grandad being my Grandad's nephew I think.

My Uncle was John Alexander Connah - known as Alec - who did live in Skegby until he died a few years ago (aged 79)

There are so many coincidences here, it has to be the same family
