Hi

East Retford is covered on the Notts FHS marriage CD, but there is nothing for it. This is the nearest I could find

William Shaw 31.8.1815 to William Shaw (joiner) & Lydia at Newark St. Marys

Just to confuse matters, there was a William Shaw, baptized 9th April 1829, East Retford, which is fairly close to Tuxford (approx 7 miles). Parents named as William & Harriet.  Occupation - labourer at that time. Was your William definitely born around 1819?

I looked at marriages and there was a marriage for a William Shaw on 11th August 1823 to a Harriet Golland, West Retford. IF, these were Williams parents there were 6 other children over a 20 years period and Williams occupation changed from labourer to boatman during this time

To confuse matters even more -

From Notts Baptism Index -

William Shaw baptised 4th June 1819,

East Retford, son of Martha Shaw.

To help matters or hinder William Shaw age 30 in 1851 was married to Ann Coghill age 26 with a son William aged 2, his sister Elizabeth was with them on the census. She was 22 years old. Ann Coghill died and William married Eliza Robinson on their marriage certificate it states Williams father as William  ( Joiner ) Aug 5th 1860. Also believe ( no surmise ) William may have had a sister Jane as a Jane Wright ( nee Shaw ) had a visitor in 1901 census Lucy Ann Shaw age 30.
Need to find William ( the joiners ) Wife if possible has anyone any ideas how to do this from the above info. All started out in East Retford and William junior moved to Legbourne in Lincolnshire.
