I am looking for a bit of help tracing my gr gr gr grandmothers burial records. She died on 20/12/1882 and was living at 6 Eglington Lane when she died.Does anyone know which catholic graveyard would have been used for that area?I am actually trying to trace her husband Charles Docherty originally from Inishowen in Donegal. He died pre 1867 when his daughter was married but I cant find any trace of him on Scotlands People. His widows name is Margaret Docherty(nee Limerick)and I thought that if I found her burial place that I might find him and his date of death.I think he was living at Carrick St when he died and his local church was St Patricks Chapel, Anderson as this is where his daughter was married.
Any help or info would be great, thanks

Do you have any idea of when Charles died? :-\ For instance, do you have the family in the 1861 census? It could be he died pre-1855 and therefore there won't be a death certificate for him.

hume24,no sorry dont have a date for him, only for his wife Margaret. All I know was that he was dead by 1867 when his daughter married. They came over from Donegal and the children were born there.I have his widow on the 1871 and 1881.I think they came over in the1850 maybe .I have several charles and margarets on the 1841/51/61 but no kids with them so dont know if them. They could even have come to Glasgow between 1861 and 1867 when the daughter catherine married.

I think I've found the family in 1861. This is one of the best census entries I've seen in terms of an Irish family. All birthplaces given. ;D I wish I was as lucky with my own Irish side!
Address: 38 Campsie St Cheapside St, Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Margaret Doguherty, f, head, wid., 47, dealer in fowls, b. Derry, Ireland
Robert ", m, son, 20, labourer, b. Donegal, Ireland
Elizabeth ", f, dau., 18, labourer in paper works, b. Donegal, Ireland
James ", m, son, 16, labourer, b. Donegal, Ireland
William ", m, son, 14, labourer, b. Donegal, Ireland
Catharine ", f, dau., 12, -, b. Donegal, Ireland
Michael McLaughlin, m, visitor, 22, labourer, b. Donegal, Ireland
Sarah Limerick, f, sister, 60, dealer in fowls, b. Donegal, Ireland
Unfortunately it may not help you find Charles' burial. It looks like he died before the family came to Scotland.

Hi folks
John Carrick Street and Campsie Street are/were in Springburn, Glasgow and both is the same vicinity.

I would think the nearest Catholic cemetery to the Springburn area would be St. Kentigern's in Maryhill, but Sighthill Cemetery would be the nearest geographically.
The larger cemeteries all have mixed burials, Catholic/Protestant/Jewish sometimes separated in sections, sometimes not, so I wouldn't discount any of them!

hume24 Blimey! That is fantastic! I am jumping with excitement, that is them alright! We only had names for Catherine and her older brother John who is my gr gr grandfather who stayed in Ireland. Now we know there was other siblings.
I could kiss you :-X :-X
I have been trying to figure out who Sarah is for ages as she is present at the births of my gr granda and a few uncles.I thought she was an aunt of Margaret(nee Limerick) now I know she is her sister. The Limerick side has been very hard to get info on as you will see if you look at my post in the Derry section.
Did you get that info on Scotlands people? I trawled the site and missed that.
Again a BIG BIG THANKYOU!!

apanderson, thanks for those cemeteries. My mum mentioned St Kertigens to me as a possibility.
The next time I take a visit home to Glasgow I might get in contact with those.
At this time I wish I was still in Glasgow so I could do a bit of digging!

Hi,
The details are from SP. I looked through a few images before I found them. If Sarah Limerick wasn't in the household, I would have probably passed on them too! ;D
Can't easily see a death for Sarah (or Sally, going by your other thread) in Scotland - she may have returned to Ireland.
I'll leave following up the other Dougherty/Docherty children to someone with a subscription. :)

Sarah Limerick known as Sally lived in Inishowen,Donegal. She is on the 1857 Griffiths Valuation. She was also on my great grandfathers birth cert in 1867 and one of his brothers in 1865.
I think she was visiting her sister at the time of thhe census.
I must go on SP and print that off.
Again many thanks for your help.you made my day! ;D

buzzbyb,thanks for that also.
Ive been trying to find out about my gr gran who married John Docherty,Margarets eldest son.My gran said she was from Campsie and Ive been searching for births and marriages in Campsie. No joy. But since this census for 1861 has been put on I think that I have been following a red herring!Gran must have picked it up wrong from somewhere. It must be Campsie STREET!
I think its all coming together!

Hi,
just on SP to check that 1861 census. Its them alright but the address is Cheapside st and not Campsie st as first thought.Ten years later they were only 3 or 4 streets away in Carrick st.
Cant find them in 1851 so must have come over between 1851 and 1861.Still cant find Charles death so none the wiser about when he died
Thanks again all :)

Sorry there! I don't know where I got Campsie Street from. I should have gone to Specsavers. ::)

hello everyone,
my aunt died aged just 22 months on 2/4/1920.
Her name was Thomasina Capperauld Hendrie.
The place of death given on the death certificate was 24 Rutland Crescent Glasgow.(Her Grandparents home)
I know that Rutland Crescent was off Paisley Road West, (I think it may have been under Pollockshields)
Can anybody tell me where the nearest cemetery would have been.
Also, I am not from Glasgow, so where is the best place to get lair numbers from.
Hope you guys can help.
Cheers Wee Vee
