I am looking for a birth entry for a George Harding son of a Richard Harding in Lambeth somewhere between 1803 - 1809. Sorry no details on mother. George is listed as a general dealer in various census records
thanks, Martin

Sorry Martin,
I can't see a George Harding with father Richard .... there is a Richard and Ann Harding christening chilldren in St Pancras -: Ann 1802, Chas 1804, Rosetta 1808
There is a William George Harding 1802, father James/mother Esther ... :-\

thanks Ruskie, Those entries sound promising, Georges first children were called George, Ann, Rosetta, and Margaret Jane. Are there any more details about Richards marriage to Ann?

Hi again Martin,
Rosetta is an unusual name so looks possible that this may be your family. The images do not show exact dates of baptisms.
There is this marriage on Pallots:
Rd Harding (b) = Ann Woodward (s)
1789
St Pancras
Seems a bit early, but there may be other children before Ann 1802. There are many marriages on the IGI between Richard Hardings and Anns. And of course Ann may be from elsewhere and they married in her parish. :-\
It might be worthwhile trying to look at the PR baptisms (or requesting a lookup) in case anything more is revealed about the couple.

By PR Baptisms due you mean a Pallots baptisms lookup? Excuse my ignorance

Hi Martin,
I meant that if you looked at the baptisms for Ann, Chas and Rosetta, there may be a little extra information about Richard included in the baptism record, such as his occupation. The baptism of George may also be there.
I'm not sure what is included in records in this area at this time (sometimes there is nothing). Someone with more knowledge may be able to advise.
Looks like registers are at the LMA:

Perhaps there is someone who is planning a visit to the LMA who will be willing to do a lookup for you.

Pallot's Baptism index 1780-1837 once contained about 12 million records. Unfortunately it was bombed during World War II and all that survived is about 200,000 records which makes it a substantially smaller index covering at least partially in the London area, only about 22 parishes.
If George consistently gave his birthplace as Lambeth Surrey then unless there is any reason to suspect he would have been baptised at St Pancras Middlesex across the Thames you might expect to search for his baptism in the Lambeth area (bearing in mind the IGI is a very imperfect index and has far from a 100% coverage of parish registers). There are baptisms on the IGI for St Mary's Lambeth with a father Richard Harding but not for a baptism for a son George. The IGI has indexed the Bishops Transcripts from St Mary Lambeth and not the registers themselves so it might be worth checking St Mary Lambeth actual registers at the LMA for George's baptism, as Bishops Transcripts (the yearly copy of registers sent to the Bishop) often have mistakes or missing years.
RICHARD HARDING
Christening: 25 OCT 1807 Saint Mary, Lambeth, Surrey
Father: RICHARD HARDING
Mother: MARGARETT
ELIZA HARDING
Christening: 28 JUL 1816 Saint Mary, Lambeth, Surrey
Father: RICHARD HARDING
Mother: MARGARET
There are two others slightly later for a Richard Harding with wife Frances. The baptism entries in the register will give the father's occupation.
Regards
Valda
