Title: Maternal great grandmother
Post by: oldenuf on Wednesday 05 November 08 21:45 GMT (UK)
Hello, Can anybody in the Manchester area help find the mother's name of my  grandfather Joseph Smith!!! Joseph, a Coppersmith gave his residence as 124 Rutland St, married Harriet Beasley of  on 26 March 1883 in St. Mathews Church, (Parish unreadable on marriage certificate) his father was Henry Smith an Engraver. Joseph's age on certificate was 29 indicating a birth about 1853/4, Harriet's age was 28. T. Taylor Evans was the assistant curate who officiated. I have been unable to find a positive record of Joseph's birth. I would be very grateful if anyone could please help me.   Sherri.

If I was going to order a certificate I would go with Eliza Smith.Cant be sure of any others. She married Samuel Bruffell Jun qu 1872 in Manchester and her age is consistent,This looks like the one to me
Dec qu 1849 Manchester 20 526.You could have them check parents names,if its right you will have Elizabeths maiden name.
I saw that marriage on IGI it looks good but there is no evidence that it is right. On every census she is Elizabeth not Eliza
There are 3 christenings on IGI that are extracted records and 2 of the children are on 51 census with Henry and Elizabeth
Henry Smith  ch 3 Jul 1836 Manchester Cathedral
William Henry Smith ch 19 Mar 1837 on census age matches
Charlotte Smith ch 27 May 1838 also on 51 census
