Hello there. This is my first post here so I hope I don't make too many mistakes....
I am looking for any information for the following (presumed) immigrants to Australia. We have in amongst our family documents a photograph of a couple with two children, taken in a photograhic studio in Sydney, NSW.
The woman is my great grandfather's sister.
Her name is Marian Elizabeth BROWN, born 1884 in Newington, London, UK. The photograph says 'love Jack and Marian' but I have no idea of her married name. I have found a marriage certificate showing a Marian Elizabeth Brown marrying a John Conrad TURNER, born 1882, married 5 Aug 1906 in St Barnabas Church, Rotherhithe, London, UK.
I can only surmise that John was known as Jack (hence the photo) as all other evidence matches.
Therefore I am searching for a John (or Jack) Conrad TURNER and a Marian Elizabeth TURNER arriving in Australia after 1906 and subsequently having two daughters - although I don't know whether either child was born in the UK or Australia.
Many thanks

I wasn't expecting any replies for a while so many thanks!
As far as I am aware, my Marian Elizabeth's mother was called Maria, but I don't have a full birth certificate for her at the moment so that is something I would need to check. Marian Elizabeth's mother died in 1890 so doesn't appear on the 1891 England census and I haven't yet located the family in 1881 census.
As for John Conrad TURNER, his father is given as John William TURNER on the marriage certificate, and his mother's name is Ann E (TURNER), on the 1891 England census.
Many thanks for your prompt response

JOhn C TURNER died 1928 HUrstville - parents John W and Elizabeth.....
or

Many thanks for that -
As I have said before, in the 1891 England census his mother is listed as Ann E so it is likely that the 1st person you mentioned is the Turner I want, as his father was a John William.
Both the place where the children were born and the place where he died are now suburbs of Sydney, so they're not too far away from each other either.
Many thanks once again

Marian Elizabeth BROWN married John Conrad TURNER. They are/were my Grandparents. According to stories Nana (Marian) told me as a child she had a brother who may have ended up in France after WW1. From what I can remember Nana believed he had married a french girl. Marian Elizabeth Brown lived to be 96 years of age and passed away in 1980 I think. Her birth certificate says that she was born in Trinity Newington, county of Surrey, born on 25/2/1884 at 62 Swan Street. Her father's name was John James Brown and mother's name Marian Brown, formerly Lovell.
The picture you have, I believe, would show John seated, Marian standing behind him, one child standing, the other I recall being on John's knee. The 2 girls were Thirza and Beatrice.
John Conrad Turner died in 1928 from tuberculosis and related illnesses - a sad story. Thirza and Beattie travelled to Waterfall (south coast NSW) where John had been "quarantined" to identify the body. Nana, I believe, was too distraught to have attended.
John and Marian had 12 acres near Fairfield (NSW) but during the depression years all of the land was gradually sold off as Nana struggled to raise 7 children during the depression.
The discussion that I chanced to discover on the net correctly identifies Thirza, Beatrice, Ethel, Louisa, Ivy (Stella). Other children included my mother Edith, born 1919 and after her, Elsie and Jack. Elsie and Jack are the only 2 surviving children of John and Marian.
I hope this information is useful to you; I would love to have further discussions with you about Nana. I would be keen to find out more about Nana's brother.

Hi Rob
I am looking for a June Lillian Turner (nee Mills) she married a John Armstrong Turner in 1942. They lived in or around Rose Bay area in late 1940's early 1950's. Her mother was Sophie Mills (nee Unmack) her father George Mills. Her husband John was in the WW2 and came out in 1945. He was born in the Hunter Valley.
I am unable to find any details at all of any children to them or if they have now passed away, where they are buried etc etc.
I would be most grateful if you new anything about them

Hello Geoff
I do keep an eye on things - four years has gone quickly! Thanks for the info. I hadn't done much with the Turners recently, and the only source I had for John William Turner's wife was the 1901 census, which lists her as 'Ann E'.
Kind regards
William

Hi William
Good to hear from you. Yes yes Hannah Elizabeth Used the name Ann in both Census Records and on Birth certificates. If you would like more info on her family please get back to me and i will gladly fill you in. You could also subscribe to the Glaum surname Group.
Could you tell me how you fit into the story are you descended from the Turners. I am going to try to atach a couple of pictures of a post card photo showing Marian Elizabeth and some of the children in Sydney and the note on the reverse to my Grand Mother
Regards Geoff

Hi Geoff
I am not descended from the Turners. However Robert Currie, who responded to my original post, is their grandson. Marian Elizabeth Turner (neƩ Brown) is my great grandfather's sister. We had a photo of her family in our possession and I was doing some detective work to see where she had ended up. Rob Currie happily obliged and filled in the missing pieces.
I've attached the photo we have of the Turners and also a picture of Marian and Charles' (my g grandfather) parents, John James Brown and Marian Lovell
Kind regards
William

Thanks for the photos I have exactly the same photo of Marian & Conrad with children. It was in our old family bible I wondered who they were for years and its all come together for ne this last couple of months through a face book group about genealogy in Australia.
Do you know how i might contact Rob Currie as i would love to get in touch?
Best Wishes Geoff
