Can anyone please help?
I am looking for information regarding an accident which took place on December 23rd 1956 at Stroud, Gloucestershire.
The man, John Hopper, was killed when he accidentallyfell off his motor cycle on the road leading from Sheepscombe to Cranham in the parish of Painswick.
John Hopper was living at that time at 59, Green Acre Pound Farm Estate, Brockworth.
Can anyone tell me where I might be able to find copies of local newspapers which may have published details of the death at that time.
I should be very grateful for any help or advice,
Thanks
John Hopper Jnr

Dear Richard, Thanks for replying to me. I am actually searching for my father
who died in a motor accident. He was born in Leeds on 14th September, 1915 and was married to a Hilda Barker on 2nd June 1938. I don't know exactly where my father died but I found on Ancestry this John Hopper who was born the same year. I know it is a longshot but I wondered if it could be the same John Hopper.
After my mother's death in childbirth, in 1943, I was adopted and my father was away in the forces. I was born in 1940. I never had any more news of my father after the end of the war although I know that he died some time after the war.
I should be grateful if you would reply to me if only so that I can eliminate him from my research.
Regards John Hopper ( Preston )

Hi Richard,
Wow, I have been searching for my birth father for many years and I do hope that at last I have found some answers. I have researched his ancestors who came from Hutton Bushell near Scarborough and have found lots of info regarding them including many bmd certificates but, alas, have been unable to find any whereabouts of my father, after his first marriage.
My father's father, also John Hopper, came from Cheshire but my father, as I told you before, was born in Leeds.
Eagerly looking forward to hearing from you,
John H

Would you like me to go to Stroud library and have a flick through the micro films as they have all the Stroud News and Journals archieves there ? I can easy take a print out.
Regards Helen.

Dear Helen,
That would be fantastic! Thank you so much. Yes, I would be extremely grateful if you would visit Stroud Library for me. I live in the Scottish Hebrides and I don't get down into England very often. I will repay you for all expenses which you incur.
The death cert states that my father, John Hopper, died on 23rd December 1956, aged 41 yrs, on the road leading from Sheepscombe to
Cranham, in the parish of Painswick. He was living at 59, Green Acre Pound Farm Estate, Brockworth and his occupation was ' a Charge
Hand Aero Fitter. His death was registered on the First January 1957 by the Coroner as he died of a fractured skull, having accidentally fallen from a 'motor cycle combination' after hitting a stone wall.
I look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks once again.

Hi...I will go tomorrow straight from work and will PM you in the evening.
I know Pound Farm well, where he was living/working, as it is now a small open air nursery / shop selling veggies etc.
Be in touch....Helen x

John, Richard,
Just been reading ur posts and am intrigued. So, are u long lost brothers?
Take Care

Dear Jo,
Yes, indeed, Richard and I are half brothers and as Richard has another brother it means that I have another half brother too. We have the same father but different mothers. Richard has already been to see me on the Isle of Mull where I live and I am now preparing to go down to meet more of my relatives. It is marvellous to think that after 71 years I have at last found my birth family. As you can imagine, I am over the moon as is Richard ! I owe everything to 'Rootschat' ! Without their help, I wouldn't have found my family. It is 4 years since I put a message on the message board which just shows how useful the website is even after so many years. I have also had some wonderful help from 'Rootschat ' members for which I am eternally grateful.
Thanks for your interest. Regards John

Hi all
I think the outcome of your wonderful story is a marvelous testimony to all the co operation, communication, good will and great kindness of so many members on here.
Those people give up so much time and here is a simply fantastic, heart warming outcome from that often very time consuming work and communication to all.
It is a real thrill to share a snippet of this story.
Good luck to you and your new family, - I wonder if the moderators may be able find a way to make use - with appropriate permissions of course - of this great example of this truly great site.
