Hi, I'm searching for descendents of my Grandfather named John James Stanfield, born to William and Sarah in Littleton, Wiltshire 1877 (1891 Census). His siblings names were: Elsie, Ethelbert, Isola and Rose. He married Emma Baxter in Ipswich, Suffolk in 1907 and died in Lowestoft in 1943 at age 66. Does anyone know of any Stanfield descendents still living in the Wiltshire area? Can't find any in Suffolk. Thanks.

Hi ponygirl
Using the website http://www.192.com/ and entering the surname and county of Wiltshire deos give you a few Stanfield's.
But with John having 3 sisters of course your ancestors from those won't be called Stanfield! Have you used the website http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ to try and work out who the girls married and try and find ancestors from them that way.
There is also www.GenesReunited.co.uk that you can try for others researching the same surname as you. There is someone on there called Joanne(not you is it?) who seems to be tracing the same Stanfield family from Devizes Wiltshire.
Good luck
Carol
PS Welcome to Rootschat- how rude of me not to have said it earlier!

Well, I joined the GenesReunited website and sent a message to Joanne to see if there are any connections. She is also looking for Ethelbert Stanfield. I'm just waiting to hear from her.
Thanks.
-
Fingers crossed that's she's still a member then ;)
Do let us know if she replies.

Well, I waited and waited and never did get a reply from Joanne. I was so hopeful. I feel like I've come to a dead end with this, isn't it frustrating? :(

Ernest Ethelbert Stanfield DOB 30 Dec 1914 died in Sep 1988 age 73 in Bristol .
It might be a good idea to purchase this death cert,it could name an informant and give you a useful member of the family.
I know it's 20 years ago now,but you never know.
Regards
Carol

Carol, the Ethelbert you're referring to is different than the one I'm querying. Mine was the brother of John James Stanfield and was born around 1884. He may have been married in 1913 to Ellen.

THe Ernest Ethelbert who died in Sept 1988 in Bristol, is a son of your 1884 Ethelbert.
All 3 children above have the mothers maiden name of Gregory.

Oh OK, I'm getting confused. Thanks.
-
I was just on the GenesReunited board and put in the name Jack Stanfield and the same name Joanne Cooper came up. She also has Ethelbert on her tree but I can't seem to get my message to her. Very frustrating. :(
-
Not sure what you mean " you can't get your message to her" ?
Do you mean you have sent a message but she has not replied?
If so it could be that she is no longer a member-you have to pay around £10 annually to belong.
Or with the Christmas holidays she may not have accessed her emails for a while, some people will have to wait till they return to work next Monday.

Hi again, Re JACK EDMUND W STANFIELD b1919. his DOB 24 Nov 1919.
Have sent you a PM re this guys death details.
Brionne.

Hi Carol,
I sent Joanne a message a couple of months ago regarding Ethelbert but she never replied and she hasn't replied to this latest one either. You may be right, she's probably not a member anymore. Shame.
-
Hi I'm new to this site so am still navigating...I'm not sure who started this query but this is my husband's family which I am tracing myself. Ethelbert Few Stanfield was my husband's Great Grandfather and the Joanne you have been trying to contact is his Aunt. Jack Stanfield was my husband's grandfather. Perhaps we can fill in the gaps in our trees.
-
Hi icstanf,
I have sent you a personal message.
-
Icstanf may not realise that you will not be able to reply to a PM as a newbie(Welcome to Rootschat by the way ;D) until you have posted 3 messages.
You best bet will be to reply to this thread a couple more times and you will have your 3.
So glad you have found each other.

Thanks Carol. I didn't realize that a new member couldn't see PMs. I was so excited when I saw her message. I had just above given up. Will she still be able to retrieve that personal message after a few more posts?

Hi Icstanf, so happy to see your post. I'm searching for any direct descendents of John James Stanfield, the older brother of Ethelbert. My sister and I have come to a standstill on our family tree due to the fact that my mother was illegitimate. So this is of sensitive nature. Would your husband know of any descendents? Thanks.

She /he? can read your PM,it's just that until she's made 3 postings on Rootschat she won't be able to reply to it. ;D
-
Ah, OK.
-
Hi Icstanf,
I have found possible children of John James Stanfield, they are:
William J. - born 1911 (married Kathleen E. Connelly June 1931 - child Pamela E.)
Leonard J. - born 1914
Doris I. - born 1919
These births are all registered in Mutford (Suffolk).
Do you have any of these names on your tree?
-
Firstly thankyou all for the warm welcome to roots chat... no doubt I'll be calling on you all when I get stuck!
-
Hi Ponygirl,
It looks like our families may be from the same tree, after all how many Ethelbert Few Stanfield's can there be?
Please tell your mum that it looks like she has found the family she's been looking for and we welcome her with open arms. ;D
Now according to the posts I can now PM you so get in touch and we'll get this tree growing again.
P.S it's lcstanf not icstanf ;)
