Title: Baptism record - Martha Ann Edwards (Dykes)
Post by: scousetoots on Sunday 02 November 08 10:10 GMT (UK)
Hello everybody,

I'm trying to locate my gt gt grandmother's baptism record to see if there is any record of a father. She was born Martha Ann EDWARDS (Mother - Eliza Edwards, a domestic servant) but her name changed to Martha Ann DYKES when her mother married a James Campbell Dykes in 1883.

She was born 26th April 1881 in 128 Wolfe Street Toxteth Park, so the baptism would probably have taken place in St John the Baptist?

I've searched the christening record on Ancestry but found nothing. Anybody got any suggestions what I should do next?

Thanks in advance,

Jenni

She may well not have been baptised in that Church or indeed ever.  Other than calling for her birth cert which would show the father's name only if legitimate or indeed if the mother decided to list this at the time of registration.

I have similar problems within my own ancestry as repeated marriages and the children assumed the most current surname making it difficult to trace the original.

Sorry cant be of any further help good luck

Thanks anyway Redpuma,

I've got her birth certificate and (surprise surprise!) no father was listed. Finding a baptism record was my last hope of finding the real father, but it doesn't look likely I'll come across it.

Thanks for taking the time to reply and good luck with your familt tree,

Jenni
