Hi Everyone. Does anyone have access to the electoral roll of 1914 for
21 Holly Street, [/Liverpool b] please? I believe it comes under the Islington district of Liverpool. I'm specifically looking for Charles Young and Emily Wheeler, who were married at Liverpool Register Office on 27 Sep 1914 and on the marriage cert it has them both at this address. I don't know how long they lived there or if it was just a lodging so they could get married in Liverpool Register Office as Charles Young had enlisted in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and is shown to be Private Charles Young(occupation slater). Any earlier or later electoral roll info would be great too if anyone can provide it. This site is great. Everyone is so helpful and kind. Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Mary, do you know when Charles was born. I know Holly Street very well. Some of my " people" lived there. I was born at the top of Holly Street. ( St Anne Street )

Hi Victoria. Wow that was a quick reply. We have a marriage certificate of Charles Young aged 39 and Emily Wheeler aged 38 shown as living at 21 Holly Street at the time of their marriage on 27 Sep 1914. Charles was a private in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers (occupation Slater) These are my paternal Grandparents. We also have a military record of Charles and his address was 21 Holly Street also, so we know this is the same Charles Young. He is shown on the army info as being born in the Islington area of Liverpool. His father is Richard Young( occupation General Labourer). Her Father is Edward Wheeler.(occupation Hawker). We also have a death certificate of Charles Young who we know for definite is our grandfather, died in Salford Lancashire on 16 Nov 1937 aged 64, so depending on when his birthday was it is likely this is the same Charles Young. I know my grandfather was a journeyman slater by trade so we're pretty certain we have the right couple. Hope this is not too much info. Sorry, if it cabbages your head. It cabbages mine lol. Thanks again for the quick reply.
God bless.

Hi again Victoria. It seems that Frances Parry was there in 1914 also. It looks like this could have been a lodging house, or even possibly the home of a relative of Emily Wheeler. It struck me that Wheeler is a Welsh name. The witnesses to the marriage were Thomas Edge and W. Thomas, which are also Welsh names. I think Parry is a Welsh name also. Is Frances Parry a woman or is it misspelt as it would be Francis for a man not Frances. What I don't understand is how Emily came to be in Liverpool in 1914 when she and Charles Young were in Bath in 1909. And the ages of 38 and 39 are quite old for a first marriage, so it implies that they had been together for some time. 9 children is a lot of children and I know that's how many children there were. It makes me wonder where the children were whilst they were in Liverpool. Thanks Victoria for your great help.
God bless

Hi Victoria. I just thought. On Charles Young's death certificate he was shown as a Gardener. I wonder if he might also have done this earlier on in his life too as well as being a qualified slater. His death certificate shows him as a jobbing gardener. Don't know if this makes any difference, but I just thought about it. Thanks again.
God bless
