What ages are they on the 51 census. ??? you could post the reference
If you have not found her birth, why do you think she is the daughter of William and Annie ???
-
hi 1851 census both 49 living broughton flintshire 1841 both 39 living marston cum lache she is listed as born lache to be honest the William and Anne are a bit of a guess i have found a birth for Hannah ass el 19DEC1828 with William and Anne as parents James and Catherine's marriage has them as witnesses along with a john moulton then a marriage for Sarah Assel has Ann ass el and again john moulton as witnesses im found birth and marriage details on Cheshire parish records project version 3 does this make sense to you if so can you help Carolyn

I cant help with Scotland I am afraid, dont have acces to scottish records.
You might do better to post again on the Scotland board.
It does sound as if they are the right parents though.
-
hi this is not scotland it is cheshire all the places they have lived are small villages around chester carolyn
-
I should have read thoroughly, I just saw Flintshire which I had always thought was Scotland..... will have to brush up on my geography ;D
-
Not having much luck, I cannot see the marriage on the IGI nor a baptism for Catherine Assel in Cheshire.
-
hi again do you think it is a wrong spelling perhaps hassel or astle ? can you suggest any other route i can take i would like to trace James their first son was thomas b 1824 then Charles followed by john and James and William daughters Elizabeth then Sarah on to Ellen then a second Ellen and Martha they seem to have kept most of these names through the family my grandfather was a thomas hill born 1902 thanks again Carolyn
-
Looking on the IGI I cant see any Assels but Hassell is a very common surname in Cheshire so it might be that :-\
Unfortunately the IGI does not seem to have very good coverage for Cheshire, its not even showing Thomas b 1824 ::) the only other thing I can suggest is to look at the actual parish records themselves.
-
hi just read your reply James and Catherine where born round about 1802 and if children's baptisms are anything to go by it would be st Marys on the hill chester or holy trinity chester can i check records myself or is there anyone who can help as going to chester records is not an option at the moment for me Carolyn
-
Do you have any of the childrens bapstims, if I could find them on the IGI it might give us a clue as to her surname. :-\
The marriage is not showing on there, did you get it from the actual parish records
-
hil i have found their marriage and childrens births on cheshire parish records project version 3 i looked up the church for their address in 1842 marston cum lache and it is covered by st marys on the hill chester the marriage took place there and the childrens births as follows thomas 31mar24 ann 30dec25 betsy 6jul28 sarah24may31 twins charles and sarah 18nov33 john 22oct37 ellen 21mar41 and joseph 3apr42 her name on marriage is spelt assel their is also a sara assel same spelling on the same page but a witness on both a john moulton is shown married to ann HASSELL 18feb1800 so this is making me wonder which name is correct a very confused carolyn
-
I have checked all childrens baptism on the IGI records, the only one shown was Ellen in 41 but just gave parents as James and Catherine Hill. ::)
Well it was worth a try, sorry I cant help further.
-
hi thanks for trying i will keep my fingers crossed in case anyone else see this and can help carolyn

Hello I have just joined Rootschat and saw your post . Thomas Hill was adopted by my family. John Moulton is my great grandfather and Annie his sister.
-
Hi
This is interesting as the name Moulton has come up but I have not been able to confirm or dismiss it. Where they from cheshire? Can you give me any more info. If you want my email address I can send you a pm.
Carolyn

Oops sorry it was Arthur Hill when I checked. He was on the census as adopted son Arthur Hill Jones . If you could send dates I could look at my tree . The Moulton’s lived in Eccleston and Pulford.
Annie ( gt grandads sister )and Samuel Jones lived in Eccleston.

Hi
Thanks for your reply
I have had a quick Look and this is what I have
Thomas Hill married Martha Thomas in 1824
She was from the Pulford area and I was trying to find her parents. I found William Thomas who had married Mary Moulton as possible parents for her. My Thomas Hill was from the Leche area and I have his parents James Hill and Catherine Assel/Hassel.
If you have anything on William and Mary I would love to hear from you.

Hi
Just realised I have made a mistake
Martha was born 1823=thomas 1824
The married in 1847
