Hi,
I'm trying to research Jane Powell. Born England Jan. 3, 1870. She is on the 1901 census for Calgary Alberta. Married to William Thomas Corby. Jane died 1901 and is buried Union cemetery Calgary.
Jane had two daughters Maude M. b1893, I believe ended up in New Westminster, Ellen A. "Nellie" b1895, married Leslie Harrison of Tomahawk Alberta.
Three sons Herbert died after birth 1901, Albert E. b1899 nothing known and Harry b1897 buried Pas de Calais, France 1916.
I would appreciate any help you could provide. Thank you for taking the time to read this

Hi,
Is it possible that Albert E. could be Ernest Albert? There are attestation papers for an Ernest Albert born Aug 18 1897 from Welsdale Alberta (I think its really spelled Wellsdale), says he was born in Calgary Alberta. Strange thing is he lists his friend Miss Clara King as his next of kin, from Welsdale also, so it may not be him. He enlisted at Winnipeg Manitoba.

There's also a border crossing entry for who I think is the same man. Ernest A. Corby born 1899 Calgary Alberta going to N. Falls (Niagara?) N.Y.

Hi Lisaw
Its possible it is him, maybe he wanted to appear older on his attestation papers? The border crossing has him born abt 1899, his actual date of birth. He seems to disappear after this.

Hi Mike,
The border crossing entry is kind of hard to read but it appears to me that he doesn't know when he is returning to Canada & he doesn't know if he intends to become a U.S. citizen, there are ?'s under these 2 questions. Can you look at all the entry?

Hi Mike,
I've heard of men aging themselves to go to war, so its possible he did.
He is listing his last permanent address as Ancaster Canada. The only Ancaster I've heard of is in Ontario. His contact person is his friend Oscar Nunn(?)

Would anyone be able to locate Jane Powell? She came from England to Canada 1891, lived in Lethbridge then Calgary Alberta Canada. Married to WT Corby and died 1901. If she came with family I am hoping to find her parents or siblings. Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

So far I can find a Janet Powell arriving on the Parisian April 5, 1891 but she is younger than yours - only 14 or 16. She is travelling with a large group of girls to Niagara Lincoln Co. via Toronto. Do you know if your Jane was simply Jane or Mary Jane, Elizabeth Jane - sometimes people used their first name for a few years and then changed to something else.
Where is your William Thomas in 1891 as I can't see him. It might give a clue to Jane.

Perhaps you will find something useful from this resource. In the Lethbridge paper there is a small notice about William T's death in 1938.
Found Wm Thos Corley, shoemaker and wife Anna M. and children in Toronto St John's Ward in 1881
and also your ancestry tree. His son Frank Corley is lodging in Irvine, Medicine Hat district Alberta in 1911 and is N.W.M.P. Collections Canada has his file online if you're interested.
Son Richard b. 1883 Ontario in 1911 is in Humboldt Saskatchewan with his family. He married Nellie Wild 13/11/1901 Carman Manitoba and children Harold Banfield (26/10/1902) and Clarence Vernon (20/02/1904) were born there. Lyda M. was born 4/11/1905 Melfort Sask and William Kenneth was born 30/1/1908 Silver Park Sask. Merrel E. was 1 on the 1911 census. Looking at Richard's family also brought up the birth of a Doris Corby 26 April 1908 at Resource Saskatchewan with parents of Maggie Kobliuk and William Thomas Corby. ????
Your family tree had a second wife for William Thomas of Eliza Jane McCann. William Thomas married Eliza Jane Durham 22 Sept 1886 at Niagara Falls. They were both widowers and her parents were Hugh McCann and Nancy A. On the 1911 census for Niagara Falls there is a Elisabeth Corby b. Oct 1840, widowed. There is also a death for Eliza J. Corby at 75 years on Feb 21, 1915 at Niagara Falls. She is shown as married and the daughter of Hugh McCann and Agnes Reid.

Hi Debbie, thank you for the information.
1891, I have Wm Corby shoemaker in Hendersons Directory living in Lethbridge Alberta.
William had three wives Ann Maria, Eliza Jane and Jane Powell
Every reference I have for Jane is just that Jane Powell or Jane Corby no second name. Most of the information for her is from the 1901 census living in Calgary Alberta with William Corby and children.
Richard Corby is the son of William and Ann Maria his first wife, I have found him married (no date) to Amy (Aimee) in Monroe Washington 1917 applying for USA citizenship living in the USA since 1903. Would be interesting to know one way or the other if it was the same Richard you found in Saskatchewan

On the LDS Pilot Record Search you find Washington Death records and there is one for
Richard Corby d. 03 Sept 1935 at Monroe Washington age 55 years
Wife Aimee Keating and Father John Corby.
From that I would think that the Richard in Saskatchewan is yours which could be verified, if you're interested, by getting the marriage certificate from Manitoba.
