Yes, I can get into the home page, but when I enter my login and password the 'page cannot be displayed' screen comes up.  It was OK on wednesday night, but last night and this morning, no joy.

Just started happening to me here (NZ) abt 20 mins ago (abt 9:10pm). - Glad it's not just me! Thought the OH had cancelled the payment  ;D  ;D  ;D was abt to chuck his dinner in the bin!!

I notice they seem to have newly put up a header ad (abt a qtr page high!)  for their new UK Inward passenger lists - maybe they are updating their home page design...whatever they did seemed to log me out (I was logged in and active at the time)and now I can't get back in nor can I get it  send me a "forgotton" password email. Possibly their update/upgrade process is still running and we may need to just wait a while?

Cheers

Thank goodness I thought it was me.
Ancestry messed my account up a while back and I figured something had gone awry again when it was telling me to upgrade to see certain info - I've got a world membership so I shouldn't need to upgrade for anything.
Tried to login in with web browser (I was in FTM) and noticed I wasn't logged in (I leave it logged in all the time), tried to log in and it wouldn't accept my details. Figured maybe I was having a blonde moment so clicked the forgot password link (just incase) and it tells me there is no account with my email addy! WHAT?

But now I see I'm not the only one, so it must be an Ancestry issue, thank goodness. Let's hope they sort it out PDQ!

That's why it's a good idea to subscribe to more than one genealogy site !  (Yeah, I know it's a lot of money, but you'll only spend it on luxuries like food and heating  ::) )

I thought I'd be clever, and log on to the .com website, and it wouldn't even authenticate my password  :-\

Hi Nick  ;D    I only use Ancestry.com.uk  to help others so it would be a bit over the top subscribing to another site...much rather spend the dollars on certs ;D ;D  Oh heating isn't a luxury in inland Oz...more like cooling ;D ;D ;D ;D  There are some advantages in living down under ;D

Thank goodness my membership ran out and they didn't have my new credit card details.  I nearly renewed the sub yesterday, glad I didn't now.  I can get to their new home page, but event though I'm logged in (I'm permanently logged in), when I try to search for anything, it asks me to log in again and then states there's a problem.

Hi All,
Have just spoken to Ancestry (UK) they did a major server update overnight and expereinced some problems - very apologetic. The estimated time for it to be up and running is 2-3 hours. :(

Don't have a paid subscription but got on late yesterday evening with no problems.

I'd made a guess that the changes were to do with making the WW1 sets available for free and got onto those too, including images, with no problem other than I can't find any one that I thought might be there.

The service records are clearly not complete in that some people come up on the pensions records who clearly have no service records and there seem to be medal rolls for many more people who are unidentifiable without further information (e.g. to link service number to age/DOB or occupation).

Disappointed as I've yet to extract any new information from what is available.   :(

Yes, thanks for that information Nanny Jan, but that's even more sad as it means I may never find any of the information.
Title: Re: Ancestry login problems
Post by: nanny jan on Saturday 01 November 08 09:29 GMT (UK)
You might find their medal cards; I think they survived.

I don't think WW2 papers are online; they have to be requested from MOD.  Veterans and next of kin get copies free.  £30 otherwise.   www.veteransagency.mod.uk gives advice about requesting a service record.

I found Ancestry a bit slow going but found records eventually!

Title: Re: Ancestry login problems
Post by: DudleyWinchurch on Saturday 01 November 08 09:36 GMT (UK)
The problem withe medal cards is that there are so many with so little information.  I need to find something with more information to confirm the numbers so I can identify the correct medal card.
Title: Re: Ancestry login problems
Post by: kiwihalfpint on Saturday 01 November 08 09:50 GMT (UK)
I didn't realise next of kin get free copies.   I was told 30 pounds and I had to supply certificates of proof.  At mums funeral her WRENS history was mentioned, (never told us) what ships she served on etc, I felt I needed to know more.   But if I can get free copies that is the icing on the cake.

Thanks once again Nanny Jan.    :)  I have a smile on my face :)
Title: Re: Ancestry login problems
Post by: DudleyWinchurch on Saturday 01 November 08 10:10 GMT (UK)
Sorry kiwihalfpint,

but the free records are to service people themselves and spouses only.  If these are both deceased and you are next of kin (even jointly) then you can send for the records, at the £30 charge.

They do send some original domuments though so I don't know what happens if someone has already requested them for the same person.
Title: Re: Ancestry login problems
Post by: kiwihalfpint on Saturday 01 November 08 10:18 GMT (UK)
Thanks dudley,  I guess I will have to send off for them ... and pay the extra for the conversion.    But it will be interesting to read of mums history.  I have since learnt she also joined the land army, but don't know if this was after going into domestic, but I am guessing it was, then on to the WRENS.

Things our parents don't tell us ;D
