Title: McGoverns of Stranadarragh, Bawnboy
Post by: yqg on Wednesday 29 October 08 12:42 GMT (UK)
Anne McGovern was my GG-M. We have a letter from her mother written in 1883. Her mother's name was also Anne McGovern and bears the address "Stranadara". Mentioned in the letter is an uncle and a brother and sister. It is presumed her father had already died. There is mention of "Biddy" who may well have been the sister. Also mentioned are friends "Peter Dolan" and "Rosey Maxwell", and also someone named "Buff" - possibly the brother - who apparently was needed either to write the letter or to take the letter to be mailed. I know there were Dolan's living at Stranadarragh as of the Griffith's Evaluation. I'd love to be able to piece together the names of Anne's brother, sister, uncle and perhaps father.

Anne married Thomas McGovern and moved to England, presumably shortly prior to the date of the letter (Oct 1883). Anne & Thomas returned to the Bawnboy area and my Grandfather was born there in 1887. Around 1890 they moved again to England (St. Helens, Lancashire).

Thank you.
