Title: victoria high school gospel oak
Post by: MaureenK on Monday 27 October 08 16:32 GMT (UK)
Has anyone any old records of this school? It has long since gone.
My interest is in a teacher Harriet Coe in late 1800's early 1900's.

Many school records will not have survived (and it seems it might have been so in this case). There were some teacher registrations but they were not mandatory and I did not find Harriet there.

Was this at Savernake Road, Hampstead?  www.historicaldirectories.org shows that in 1891 it is descripted as Victoria High School for Girls (with mixed kindergarten class), in 1896 Miss Wilkin was hon. director.  By 1910 it appears to have moved to 31 Pond Street.

'If' any records survive, they 'may be' at the London Metropolitan Archives.

I've had a look at their catalogue on Access 2 Archives and can't see anything but not every item is catalogued.

It may be worth your while sending the enquiry team an email asking if they hold anything.

They do action every enquiry in receipt order and they are just about to close for annual stocktaking so you may not get an instant reply.
