Hi all
Looking for anything relating to the death of my gt-gt-gt-gt-grandfather William MILLS. Here are some details I have on him:
born: ~ 1807 in Ashford, Kent.
occupation: agricultural labourer.
married: Christmas Day, 1830 at St Michael's with All Angels in Kingsnorth, Kent.
spouse: Silvestra FLOATE, born 14 July 1811 in Ashford, Kent.
emigration: Departed London aboard Resource 7 October 1838.
immigration: Arrived Port Adelaide in South Australia, 23 January 1839.
death: unknown possibly 1839 or 1840.
William's wife Silvestra (also known as Mary Ann, or Polly) remarried twice, firstly to Charles STEPHENS (details unknown), and then in 1854 to James DEVINE. She died 29 August 1893 in Norwood, South Australia.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Hi

ADDING
http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/fh/passengerlists/1839Resource.htm
Does not show De Vine as a passener per Sasha's BISA finding.
Possibly he was crew or omitted on the listing or disembarked Pt Phillip [where the ship first landed,] and he then came to SA later.
There were some deaths on the voyage but William Mills is not listed among them.
He must have died very soon after landing as Sylvestra produced young Charles Stephens in October 1840 and she had arrived Jan. 1839 as Mills.

Thanks for the help, people. I will follow up those leads you have given me.

Nudge in case you didn't notice on
http://www.jaunay.com/
- death in SA of a William MILLS.
From the website
To find more information about the event you need to purchase the CDs compiled by Graham Jaunay and sold by Gould Genealogy or visit an appropriate library and access the CDs.
Alternatively if you do not wish to purchase the CD you can order a single lookup on the blue section of the form on this site.
Perhaps a library near you may have the CD.

Thanks Cando.
There is a dedicated geneological library in Lismore, not far from here. I've found them very good in the past. I'll give them a try. If they don't have it, well if it is $15 for a single look up, or $25 for the CD, I'll probably buy the CD and donate it to the library when I'm done.

Hi Nudge,
Did you know that the majority of the passengers, if not all of them on board the vessel Resource, came in to Australia under "A Free Pasage to Paradise". Where United Kingdom Emigrants applied for free passage to South Australia 1836-1841.

Hi Nudge
Looking at the birthdates on "resource" passenger list, Thomas was only 12 when his son was born, Martha was 32. Do you have any other confirmation of these dates
Thanks

Thanks, David
Isn't that article fascinating! I have not found anything on William MILLS after his arrival in Adelaide. But maybe he was still alive in 1846. So Charles STEVENS and Silvester FLOATE never actually married - indeed, she uses her maiden name in the business they had. What surname did she use when marrying James DEVINE in 1854, I wonder?
Do you know what type of business they operated?
Cheers
Nudge
PS Thomas Noakes FLOATE was christened 12 Feb 1792 at Great Chart in Kent. Martha CHITTENDEN was christened 6 Sep 1790 at Warehorne, Kent. They were married 5 May 1810 at St Matthew's in Warehorne, Kent
