Dont know if this helps :)
On 1851 HO107 / 1720 / 583 / 9 there is a William Weller age 39 of Crowell living in
Saunderton with wife and family. I had a look on original census and on page before there
is a Thomas Weller age 36 from Crowell living with his father in law, no mention of wife.
Could the family have moved here and thats how William and Elizabeth met ???
What do you think :)
-
Sue ... that's great especially the Crowell POB ...
Is there an IGI chr for William Weller circa 1812?

Les:
Because of the WILLIAMS being so close to mine (we've discussed this before in chat), I thought it might be good to post a tree with my WILLIAMS on it. My cousin has a tree on ancestry ... here is the link to the common relative(s) she and I share. We start with John WILLIAMS m. Sarah TAPPIN and I descend from one of their children and she from another.
http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/person.aspx?pid=-1111862604&tid=7350000&ssrc=
Go from there to follow the WILLIAMS. Hope you find a match!

wonder if she is mistranscribed as Smith and should be Williams ?
clutching at straws and Penn / Speen ???

I'm probably just muddying the waters ... Elizabeth WILLIAMS, 1874 High Wycombe, is the daugher of Joseph WILLIAMS (1852) and Eunice BLACKWELL (1851).
-
Les:
When you can, get into ancestry and run Sarah TAPPIN, 1769 Bucks, to get to the trees I've mentioned. I can't imagine yours aren't in there somewhere, given High Wycombe features in several of them.
Good luck! 8)

OK then, can't find a link between my George Lacey and your Lacey's, but I'll put all the gubbins so that if something comes to light then all the information is there.
:-[ Sorry to mislead you, I just meant that it was the George Lacey that I was chasing that seemed to bear no resemblance to Les' tree.
Edited to add: Not that I would mind finding a cousin here - so if anyone has rellies in Norfolk and Kent.............(Note to self, must put names on my messages!)
-

ooo well done badge
although this changes the situation ...although I may be wrong ...
Mary Ives always states Crowell as POB ...so doea the image make her born Speen or just living in Speen ???
also where is Darvills Hill?
also now we have Hannah Ives ... is she the mother/sister of mary? That may help us ...if we knew of course LOL
-
Would think she might be living in Speen ... and I've no idea of where Darville's Hill might be. I'll need to ask Harris as she is from the area.
-
my geography is useless.can someone tell me what area we are in and is it even england?cathayb
-
Hiya Cathay.
We are in Buckinghamshire.
High Wycombe is West of London. On the M40... About 30 miles.
Marlow is just of the bottom of the map.
This area borders Berkshire.
-
I think this might be John Williams 1873 (brother to Kate) in 1901.
RG13 1348 126 20 in Downley Buckinghamshire.
Lodger :( with Pitcher family
-
:o ooooo Badge. You nearly got spammed.... just checked the box.... ::)

hadn't you solved Ada in 1901 too?
Kate was with husband William
i wonder if John (father) could not afford to keep the youngsters and went into the workhouse as a last resort ? after having placed his children elsewhere ?
perhaps the workhouse records and also the parish poor relief / poor rates records will help you.
have you tried contacting Bucks RO

so he upped his age - maybe he had to for work reasons ?
you never know
Longwick Princes Risborough
John Clare 75 head widow pauper b. bucks
Thomas Williams 19 lodger labourer
George Williams 17 blacksmith
now there is no relationship given betwixt Thomas & George as the relation on census returns is to the head of the household
so John Clare was a pauper who was perhaps receieivng releif from the parish for having lodgers in his hame - what doth ye thinketh ?

however, this Thomas seems to be married to an Ellen Sarah in 1901

Les!!!
Who else has TAPPIN and where????
As for WILLIAMS, remember mine come earlier ... WILLIAMS b. about 1768 Towersey, Oxon, m. Sarah TAPPIN b. 1769 Bledlow, Bucks, in 1792, Bledlow.
They had the following children all in Bledlow, if I recall correctly, so still think there is a chance your later ones might come from mine:
John, 1793
Thomas, 1795 (Harris' direct)
Elizabeth, 1796
James, 1798
Mary, 1803 (my great-great-grandmother)
Ann, 1806
Sarah, 1808
Christopher, 1812
Also Sarah's (1769) mother was from Princes Risborough....
I'm pretty lost in this hunt, so sorry if all the above has already been shown to amount to nothing.
-
Les:
Would you mind reposting the WILLIAMS tree, please?

yes got dates but ah ha what do you think of this :~

Sorry, Les, but what reference got you to TAPPIN? There wasn't one I saw in the post where you mentioned the TAPPIN must be mine ... if it was John WILLIAMS marrying Sarah TAPPIN, I've got it but, otherwise, I don't know/see what reference you refer to. HELP!
-
and Ellen b. 1831ish
ok so we have 2 possibilities
Ellen Dorsitt (Dorset ec.) b. 1833 Princes Risborough UNMARRIED with a child Laura aged 1 month in 1861
in Northampton RG9; 935; 53; 33;
and then again in 1871 over in Leicester : RG10; 3287; 97; 9; and no little Laura
but in 1891 (back in Bucks) we have Ellen RIXON RG12; 1143; 34; 6;
so do we have a birth for Ellen Dorsitt (and variants) in PrincesRisborough the same time as 'our' Ellen?
i could not see a marriage betwixt Ellen Williams and Mr Dor* in Bucks but as Ellen is in Northampton in 1861 of course the marriage may have occurred elsewhere
Re Ellen Rixon is there a marriage betwixt Ellen Williams & Mr Rixon
remember Rose - Kates sister seems to have married under the name of Weller to Rixon - all very confusing but family ties and all that
it seems that most likely people married within their boroughs regardless of any other factors
or of course Ellen Dorsitt may have married mr Rixon
-
need a last push ?
i think you may have to wait til the 1911 census for Kates siblings :-\
-
Hi Guys........just to let you know the next Hunt wont be put up till tomorrow night, so you've got an extra day!!
Hope it doesn't bother you too much. :D :D :D

Les, I hate to be a pain, but what link/reference to TAPPIN, please? If it was John WILLIAMS m. Sarah TAPPIN, I've got that. But, if some other, would you please repost?
Thanks!
Deb is supposed to be next up....
-
:D Hi Badge,
I'll have to look at the post's..
It was a ref number that Toni posted. When I put in the number, it came up with 'not exact matching' and gave a list of names that I think was a page from the census... :-\
Then I got lost myself.... ;D
bbiab..
-
yes got dates but ah ha what do you think of this :~
RG12; 1143; 52; 10
This is it Badge.
What does it give, when you put the reference in ???
Just got to unpack and get some food.
-
I get nothing ... I've no idea what year that is supposed to refer to ... I'm HOPELESS with census references. I get ZERO hits using that info in the census boxes, searching either all years or each year separately.
-

Census ref's.
1841 = HO7
1851 = HO8
1861 = RG09
1871 = RG10
1881 = RG11
1891 = RG12
1901 = RG13
1911 = RG14
Hope this helps. I didn't put the RG12 as that was already selected in the 'available years' drop menu..

Les go through everything and do a summary of what needs to be ound / cleared up
i think you're going to have to wait unil the 1911 census for Kates siblings though which is a bit unfortunate esp. as they were obviously not from a big city and may not be out Jan 1st 2009

Thanks very much, Les!! ;D

RE the Wellers from Westerham Kent. realise that I am a bit late in entering this discussion but better late than never.
This is also my first attempt at using Roots Chat so I have probably got it all wrong, However, here goes.
SDBadger, have you all the info you require regarding the Wellers, if not I may be able to help. William and Jane were my 3x grandparents via their daughter Maria. There are also a couple of related coincidences.
Please advise.

Thank you,
Being of a certain age i.e. not in the first flush of youth, I am not exactly familar with the short hand that is used. I need someone to guide my faltering steps.
Trust this epistle will do for number two in my quest.
-
;D Yep, one more Tissot..
Tephy, shame on you using abv.. PM's et al... put off poor Tissot on their 1st attempt.
Lesanne. ;D ;D

Mea Culpa..............I'll shave me head and go round in sack cloth and ashes..... :-\ :-\
Don't worry Tissot, you'll soon get the hang of it all. Trust me, we all looked at it at one stage with very blank looks on our faces. ;D Come to think of it - I still do!!! ;)
-
There are some excellent tutorials here Tissot

Ladies,
I am not that easily put off. If one thing I have learned over the years is that there is always a fair maiden ready to help a prince charming in distress - or something like that.
Thats number 3 done and dusted.......I can already fell the vibes across the ether.
John

There you go........three done so give it a try, send me a PM (private message)
Barbara

:) Cheerio for now John.... unless you find a link to my Wellers... ;D

Hello Deb,
No, I used up £50 in credits desparately trying to find the Cox's :-\ ...... but it was all such a hash, I gave up. Now quietly puddling in Oxfordshire.
