Hi,
I would very much appreciate birth info on Robert OSWALD before 1800. He married Elizabeth Patterson in 1824 at Penshaw & 4 children Robt, Wm, Ralph & Ann were bapt there.
Is there any other OSWALD parish info at Penshaw prior to 1800.
Thanks,
Genie

Hi Genie,
Not sure of the geography in Durham but there's this on the IGI:
Robert Oswald birth 9 Feb 1794, christening 9 Mar 1794 Gateshead, Durham
Parents: Robt.Oswald & Elisth
An extracted record.

Penshaw BT's are on here:

Bit of a tiresome trawl, but can be well worth the effort. Some parishes give additional information too, which is a nice bonus. ;D
May be worth checking nanny jan's find in case there is further information. The Penshaw marriage may say where Robert is from, so also worth checking.
Good luck.

Ruskie just got there before me!
Time-consuming, but well worth browsing through.

You're right Jennifer, I've spent days on there turning pages (but I do have a slow old PC) ;D
I meant to say Genie, that for each year, the records are usually in this order: births, then marriages, then deaths, though some parishes are a bit of a muddle, with some missing pages and some pages doubled up, so worth checking numerous pages either side if a record is missing.
Have fun!

Genie,
I found the burial recorded of a Robert Oswald, aged 46, on March 31, 1841, at Monkwearmouth. His address was Pit Houses, and as an Elizabeth Oswald, aged 40, was living at Monkwearmouth Colliery in 1841 with three of the children you mentioned, this looks like your Robert. If so, you are looking for a birth date of around 1794/1795, so Nanny Jan's Gateshead baptism is a possibility.
