I need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Before I go completly crazy.
I was hoping there would be a genius who could strike the jackpot for me!
I need a look up on a William George Clarke. Born 15 July 1881-1885 in Melbourne , mother unknown, father William.
He was supposed to be born in Little Collins St. Melbourne. Had a sister named Rose and brother Thomas, probable other siblings for the times.
I have the marriage certificate from NSW, it states his name as William George, but all his children have three names, I am thinking he may have had another name first???? Reason of my thinking two of his first born sons are George Albert William Clarke. Milton William George Clarke.
He was supposed to have lived in a two storey terrace house in Little Bourke St opposite the Old Stone Baptist Church there or used to be there.
I would appreciate any help.
Thanking you inanticipation.

I have just searched all the births to 1888 in Victoria for Clark* with father William. I sorted by the mother's name and then waded through every group looking for a Wiiliam (or George) with siblings Thomas somewhere in the name, and Rose or a name from which Rose could be derived.
Absolutely nothing that looked likely to me. :-\
Added: I also checked to 1902 for children born to a William Clark* and there were none by the name of Rose or Thomas.

Hi Susan,
Were Rose and Thomas older / younger than William, these in a few Thomas Clark"s and 4 Rose Clarks born up to 1888,
There is also a few George William Clarks, born abt your time frame, do you have an idea / hunch who the mother maybe, as all have mothers names listed ...........

Hi Daizi,
I'm sorry I have no idea what his mothers name could have been. I have been told that his sister must have been older than him.
I know this one is very difficult, as I can't see anyone not naming their mother.
I don't know if this is any help to you but hey what do I have to loose.
William George Clarke who was suppose to born 15-7-1885. As it it written in the family bible, but when I look at the 15 number it looks as though there was a 12 because of the curling of the number, but I could be very wrong.
He married Florence Caroline May Penney born July 1892 in Milton New South Wales, on the 8th March 1911. On the marriage certificate it has mother unknown, father "William" and occupation of his father as "Coach Duties". It also states Victoria for place of his birth, not Melbourne. Now this could be the lack of the Ministers entry. I am lead to believe that back then they had to show a birth certificate prior to marriage. I believe it came in 1856 ruling.
They had the following children:
Ada Florence Ann
Albert William George
Alice Doreen May
Milton William George
Earnest Lindsay
Raymond Vincent
Thelma Caroline Rose
Winnifred Pearl Grace
Alice Ruby Joyce
Violet Ellen Joan
Howard Samuel Hilton
Dorothy Dulcie Merle
Neville Cecil Warren
Ronald Noel
One back then as ome times today children are named after the bride or grooms parents etc......
There is a story through the family that the daughter with the name Rose was named after his sister.
There is also a letter from the first born Ada to sister Alice about their Grandparents with some details of them, but then so goes on to talk about their parents
quote" NOW our dear father was born at Little Collins St Melbourne.
His father was William Clarke his wife was Rose that had two daughters Alice & Rose. Dad was born born 15th July 1885 in Melbourne"then she goes on about their Grandparents history which is correct to the letter.
Other members of the family recall him talking of a Rose and also of brothers Thomas and with some a brother named Walter (Wally).
As for the spelling of "Clarke" he used to tell all his children to make sure to put the "E" on the end, I don't know what to make out of this?
I have a feeling he may have been born around 1881 as all his photos he looks older than his age stated.
This man ran away from home age 12-14, another member of the family says age 9, but I don't think so as parental fines were very big back then, again I'm probably wrong!
He never returned to his family.
So this is this thus far, I don't know if this is going to be of any help, but I thank you for your reply in my quest o find this man.
Cheers,
Susan Clarke

I have no idea if either of these are relevant……I suspect they are not.......the father William Clarke may well have migrated after marriage…..but for what they are worth, here are the only marriages of a William Clark(e) to a Rose in Victoria in that year span.......
William CLARKE married Rose RENFREY in 1853 in the parish of ST JAMES, MELBOURNE (C of E)
Ref = 6370
Fiche = 976
William Ashling CLARK born E HILL married Rose Ruth SHERLOCK in 1881
Ref = 1032
However, a search for births to a William Clark(e) and a Rose bring up only the following…….
Julia CLARK born 1868 in WHITE HILL to William and Ann ROSE
Ref = 6211
Rose Ann Ashling CLARK born in 1881 at PRAH to William Ashlin Clark and Rose Ruth SHERLOCK
Ref = 25442
Not realy much help..... :-\

I along with dee, daizi and Jenn have trawled the bdm Vic indexes for the period.....if this man 'ran away from home at age 9 or even 12/14' he may not have been able to give accurate details at time of his marriage.

Do you have any or all of his children's birth certificates?
They will state his name age and place of birth. It would be interesting to compare them for any discrepancies
