I have a copy of Elizabeth Hoadley's birth certificate. I believe Elizabeth to be the younger sister of my 2 x great grandmother Sarah Hoadley who was married to Edward Camfield. I really hoped that by discovering the maiden name of Sarah Hoadley (Elizabeth & Sarah's mother) that it would open up new avenues of research. Unfortunately I really can not decipher the name. I'd be grateful if anyone else could have a look and see if they can come up with any ideas. Thanks.

Hello Chessiepops,
My first impression was that the name was Furmenger. The "menger" at the end seems quite clear - it's the beginning bit, isn't it?
Looking at the "F" in Father, it does look pretty similar.
I looked at the IGI and various censuses, there are a few Furmengers in Kent. Is that where your family comes from? Can't quite see it on the copy you've posted.

Thank for that. It does seem as if it may be Furminger. The birth actually took place in Heavy Waters, Chadwell just north of the river but the Hoadleys travelled in Kent/Essex. A lot of Hoadleys seem to come from Essex, Kent and Sussex. At last a new avenue to explore! Thanks.

There is another identical thread somewhere - I just looked at this birth cert!
(Same conclusion was reached re name though)

I did two threads in the hope that I would get a wider response. I wanted to do this section because of the travelling link and I did a general one too. Thanks anyway.
