I have checked AVG, originally I couldn't download the update, but that's has been done now.
I think this happened to me once before but I cannot find the thread.

It sounds like Virgin are carrying out work on one of there nodes, nothing to worry about it should clear in a few hours.
I am always getting the same report.
Nothing to do with AVG.

Thanks Bilge,
Maybe that's why I can't access their Status site either.

It is highly likely that Virgin or their partners are working on the email sytem that delivers your mail so it is advisable to give it a while before trying again.
If it doesn't clear up have a read at http://www.tiscali.co.uk/help/email/oe_errors_0x800ccc90.html (it's for tiscali but the general aim is the same)

Thanks Falkryn, :) I will do that.

I seemed to be able my email around 3:45pm after an outage of about 5 hours.
What really upsets me is that they never announce that there are problems, until 24 hours after a problem has begun and they never apologise for them either.
I just received a letter from them trying to get me to sign up for a new package as it is a 'no brainer'.
We have had at least 3 interruptions to our service in as many months, so changing ISP seems to be the no brainer as far as I am concerned.

I am with Orange and email a friend every day who's with Virgin.
At the weekend and on Monday he received nothing from me.
We deduced that Virgin are messing about with things again!
Luckily we have back up accounts with Yahoo for times when this happens.
Last time it took about a month before Orange would accept emails from FSWorld(Orange)

Hi Ambers, My email is down as well - I am Liverpool so it must be quite a widespread problem. Its a real pain as I had the opportunity to book tickets for Lionel Ritchie this morning on a presale. No chance of getting them now. virgin has a lot to answer for!

Just been looking at Digital Spy!
Apparently they had major power failures (out of their control) took out back up power supplies.

Can you provide a link to where you found that message.
It isn't on their Service Status page.

The above link should throw some light on the situation.

"Took out back up supplies" ?? They should be totally independent ! ::)
-
As I read the story, what appears to have happened is there was a failure of the power supply.
On restoration of power, the back up power supplies failed causing damage to wiring.
(I would be looking for compo from energy supplier on this?).

You'll be lucky ! About 3 weeks ago, we had several power interruptions one after another in quick succession, and when the power was restored, our freezer didn't work any more. I phoned the power company and demanded compensation. They didn't want to know, and they suggested that I claimed through my house insurance. When I looked at my insurance policy that the loss of no-claims and policy excesses would cost more than a replacement freezer, or a repair, so I ended up footing the bill myself.
