Hallo.  Although I am not connected to the McBay family of St Cyrus and Johnshaven I have a large chart which traces the descendants of an Alexander McBay who married a Christian Ritchie at St Cyrus in 1802.  As there are many branches perhaps you could let me know your connection.

Hi.  As you are having difficulty with private messages I suggest we use the normal method of posting.  I have searched both the Benholm and St Cyrus Parish Register for the birth/baptism of John McBay but could find no entry.  The same applies to his siblings Thomas, Martha and Johanna.  I think the best we can say is that John would have been born in either 1835 or 1836.
The reply you received from Ray Buck on 27 Jun '08 mentions a William McBay b. Forfarshire 1829.  He and his brothers Alexander(1827), David (1830) and John (1832) were  born at Panbride, Angus (formerly Forfarshire) their parents being Alexander McBay and Elizabeth Wilson.
I'm sorry that I couldn't be of more help.  You have done very well in the research of your branch.

Regards,
Isles.

Hi,
Thanks for coming back to me it is much appreciated,Thomas,Martha and Johanna were born in Co.Durham. It looks like I will have to accept that I will not be able to find John's birth record in the OPR and accept the birth date given on his Merchant Seaman Ticket, all I have to do now is find where and when he and his father died and did they both die at sea on the same ship between 1861/1871.
Once again many thanks for your help.
Regards

Hi,
Thank you for replying, yes I am very interested.Alexander/Christian are my 4x Grt.Grandparents and my line is through their son Thomas b.1811,Miltonhaven,St.Cyrus,Kinc/Martha Davidson, they had four children all believed to have been born in Johnshaven.I am not very experienced with using rootschat so bear with me if I get things wrong. I will be very happy to share all my research on my line with you.Can you advise me how best to do this,as I am not very IT literate.I look forward to hearing from you.
