Title: John Pearce
Post by: penilelly on Wednesday 22 October 08 12:12 BST (UK)
Does anyone have information on John Pearce b.1864/5? Married Eliza Charlotte Osborn in Deal Kent in 1895. He was at that  time serving as a Royal Marine. The family moved from there by 1904. In 1906 they were living in Bristol. John became fire officer for Mardon Son & Hall although by 1919 he was again a Royal Marine.
He is my great grandfather.

Hi

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Do you have their marriage certificate? This would give his father's name  and you could trace him back that way:

Mar q, 1895, Eastry, vol 2a page 1190.

Thank you Gadget,
I do have their marriage certificate. His father's name was James Pearce. But without a place of birth I cannot find him either! I do know that James was a bookbinder/journeyman.

There's a possible in 1871, Islington as Pierce:

RG10/288 F 16 P 25

Father James's occupation fits  - vellum binder  <something maybe works>*

*added - maybe 'and washer'
