Ebenezer White was born on 6th April 1888 in Bethnal Green London. His parents were Charles and Belinda White (nee Wilkes) and his brothers were Charles, Herbert and Percy. He had a sister Rosina. He appears on the 1901 UK census.
He married Jessie Florence Shuttleworth (nee Evans - widow) on 31st May 1914 and had my grandad Alfred White on 30th April 1915.
We know he left them both in 1916 to travel to Canada with his girlfriend who was a nurse. He wrote to my Grandad (Alfred White) in about 1923 to say he had made a new life in either Toronto Canada or Ontario.
We lost all trace of him and my Grandad spent his life looking for him.
Can anyone help me find him?
I found and old record once on the internet but no back up to say he died on 22nd July 1950 in Ontario. But have found no record since.
Did he change his name? Does any Canada family know his real name was Ebenezer?
Please please help me I am desperate. My dad (Robert White son of Alfred White) would dearly like to find his relatives in Canada.
THanks anyone who even gives me a clue.

I forgot to say that he was a cabinet maker/journeyman when he left England. In case that helps?

One place you might try searching are the Toronto Directories. There are some online at the Internet Archive site.

You could also check the passenger lists I found 2 White's that immigrated in 1916. (No first name given) The manifest might say where he was planning on living, or with whom.
WHITE ( Adult )

Ship: Grampian

You can search either manually but free.

I have checked both the "Toronto Star" Newspaper and the "Globe and Mail", (both located in Toronto, Ontario) for the date of death, but have not been able to locate a notice.
In the old record, did it say what city or town in Ontario?

Thank you everyone for your help
The old record was on Ancestry and when I tried to click into it it said that the user was no longer a member of Ancestry and they would send a message to see if the member wanted to rejoin. It simply said Ontario marriage in 1916 and death on 22nd July 1950. It may not have been the same person.
I found it highly complicated to try and look on the directories - can anyone give me a clue how to do it?

Do you happen to know his second wife's name? It might make it easier to find in the Canadian records.
I checked findmypast and couldn't find any possible matches in 1916. The two quoted by Janice were military passengers returning to Canada. Hopefully his second wife has a less common name and will appear in the ships passenger lists.

We have no idea at this stage who the nurse was and indeed we did not even know he had married Jessie Shuttleworth before he left England. So if he did marry again in Canada it would have been illegal..
....but maybe that is why he left? who knows
thanks again.

For the directories, you can download the pdf version. (It is much easier to search) It may take a while, depending on the speed of your computer and internet.
