The CANE [Sussex] and LOWE [Devon] families seem to have been associated with the theatre world 1850s to 1900s in England. Links have been found in many counties and cities including Devon [Torquay 1854], Birmingham [1877], Yorkshire [1880s], and London [1901].
I have found some unlinked details of the Lowe family but am interested in web sites which may help in researching their theatrical life. Occupations on the censuses have included actor, pantominist, and comedian.
Looking forward to hearing any suggestions.
Thank you
Beth

I have been researching my family history (Lowe-Lauri) and came across this website with a post from yourself last year.
A second cousin and I have been do quite a lot of research and have found various bill posters. But there is still a lot of information missing. I would like to know how the canes are related to the Lowes (lauri's) as i have not come across this.
Regards

Sally, it was really nice of you to make contact about the Lauri family. I have been researching the CANE family for my cousin and found over 1000 newspaper references to HARRY CANE who married Emma LOWE [m.1877 Birmingham]. Emma was born in a Workhouse in 1854 to Eliza Lowe and met Harry Cane [actor] while they were acting in pantomimes. I found a link to the Lauri family as I found that some changed their name to LAURI [correct?]
All of the above I've not looked at for six months so if you see any connection I'd love to know more about Eliza.
My personal email is bethstruan at yahoo.com.au [note bethstrUAn]
